How fast does prednisone work

I haven't been on prednisone for a while and I can't remember how fast it typically takes to kick in.  I was on 50 mg for a week and am on day #3 at 45 mg. I still have bad cramping before each BM and haven't seen a ton of results. I seem to remember prednisone working faster in the past.  Can anyone tell me if they have had similar results and if prednisone has taken a bit longer to kick in?

It took about 30 minutes to kick in. 4 months of barely being able to walk or eat and I was out in town and eating sushi.

When I first started it, I was like Lisa. It kicked in the same day I took it. The last time I had prednisone (a couple years ago), it never did help. It was kind of scary, because I always thought I could fall back on prednisone if I needed it. After 3 or 4 months and no results, my insurance finally approved entocort, and that got me on track.

i just started taking 60 mg again last week...next day felt better...BUT now i'm down to 50 this week and not feeling so good anymore...not sure why the 10 mg is making such a big difference this time, but blood's back already and pain etc. too...great...

Usually the Pred kicks in by the next day for me, luckily never had it not work.

mtgman, maybe you need to go back up 5mg. Could be the 10mg drop was just too quick for you. My GI tells me when I go down, if I start feeling bad again, to go back up.

thanks for the updates.  I know when my crohn's was mild it kicked in very quickly but now my crohn's is much more severe so maybe it just needs a little more time....hopefully.  I bumped back up to 50mg this morning and we'll see what happens.  I have tried almost every other med so i'm at the end of the line in terms of options.  My GI is hoping this will kick me into remission and then I am possibly going to try Cimzia as maintenance.  Humira didn't work for me but maybe Cimzia will.

thanks Gail...i will DEFINITLY give that a shot...i feel like crap after dropping 10...maybe it was too fast this time...

My last flare it took almost 3 weeks before I felt better. That is odd for me but at least now I know what to expect next time. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

thanks Elizabeth. While I never like to hear people are sick and needing prednisone, it does give me some reassurance that there is still hope the prednisone will kick in soon and i'll start feeling better. I bumped back up to 50mg until I start feeling better.
