It really is a matter of how you feel at that moment. How many of us have been at the place where we feel fine...make plans...get to where we want to be and BOOM!!!! feel sick......this can happen when you head out to eat....
so just keep your options open.....for me what works is to recognize what I want to do after I eat. Sometimes eating fried food increases the chances of a bad reaction so if my wife and I are planning on shopping, going to a movie or a club after the meal out....well then I just make sure I choose items that have less of a chance of causing me to feel bad. If we are just going to eat and head home....then I will probably take a chance and pick foods that I really really really enjoy but know have a risk attached.....it has always been worth it.
I travel a lot for my job so I am away from home/dining out probably 11 out of 21 meal periods a week. If I am on the road for work then I usually take it easy so as to not affect a meeting the next day or end up having an issue at 30,000 feet when flying home. This is the hardest because I am usually traveling to places with great restaurants and my clients really want to go somewhere nice.
On top of that I am in the food business and when younger trained to be a chef, so I love food and dining out.
again, the question here is "how do you feel?" and you just need to know that if you can't eat it at home without an issue you probably can't eat it out either. For me Sushi is usually a very safe meal....
