Weight loss after surgery

i was just wondering how much weight people lost after their surgery.
I have surgery in 5 days and the waiting is really getting to me right now, i just want to feel better and have it over with.

I lost a lot before my first surgery,was underweight before surgery and gained weight right after. With my second surgery, I was closer to my average weight beforehand, and I lost around 10 pounds after having surgery.

A lot of it probably depends on what your weight is like before surgery, and how your surgery goes-my guess at least!

Hi I lost alot of weight before my surgery and started to gain as time went on it was is so good to be able to eat without all the pain and other problems I had before surgery.I still am eating and doing so much better without constant worrying about running to emerg. .. Are you having open or lapo? I didn't have to wait long for mine as both were pretty much emerg. so not much help with the waiting.Is this your first bowel surgery? What are you having done? Do you think it helps to talk about it?How is your weight doing now? lol gail

I am having a combo of open and lapo surgery. I was told about 3-6inch below the bellybutton and then various inscions across my stomach. It is my first surgery they are taking at least two areas one at the ileum and the other being part of my intestine and then anything else they find while they are in there. My weight now is pretty constant i lost about 25lbs since august but a lot of that came from getting off of prednisone. i am trying to maintain it before the surgery because i figured i would lose about 10-20 lbs. I am able to eat cheese pizza and drink barqs rootbeer so that has pretty much been my diet for the last month or so.

i think that talking about it on this site has offered my a good piece of mind, it is nice to know that other people feel like i do. it is nice to have a place that i can share my experience and troubles to make it easier on someone else. Thanks for the help and good luck to you

Hi When I had my surgery after the bowels pass gas they put you on liquids and that takes only a few days..So you should be eating soon after.. I don't think a few days without food is too bad.. compared to the not being able to eat much before surgery.. Your right it is a good place here and being a part of things make a difference in people's lives..Do you have someone that will visit, my Aunt used to come in and bring me pics to look at it was good to have someone there to help pass the time.. I will be glad when you feel better and can eat other things ..I was starving when I got out and my Aunt made me a good meal.. when I was in I used to go to the kitchenette and get boost ,crackers,ice cream and other goodies.. lol gail

I lost about 10 pounds in my 6 day stay. I'm gaining weight back slowly now.

I have always lost about 10+ pounds after both my resections. Once I recover though the weight comes right back because I feel better and am able to eat better.

Never really lost weight at all - even after surgery and 2 weeks on TPN. As a matter of fact, I am overweight!! I have this crazy disease and never even had the benefit of weight loss!! Doctors had a hard time diagnosing me because they were in denial that I could have this disease and look so darn healthy. I come from a large italian family and we eat even if we feel like death....

I lost 15 pounds after my 2nd re-section 3 years ago, and I've not been able to gain it back. I feel worse now than I did before the surgery.
