Do I need someone to come with me for my first injection of humira?...kind of worried in case I have a reaction, but then again there will be nurses there...what do you think?...anyone

When they say the loading dose, does that mean I'm going to have 4 seperate injections? or is it 4 doses in 1 injection?....also, should I take benadryl before the injection like they do with remicade?...somehow I appear to be holding my own right now on 9mg of entocort, 1000mg of cipro and 800gm of xifaxin...I may hold off the humira until I can get an appt with my second opinion...either way I can't start the humira until sometime next week as the nurse at my GI'S office works tuesday thru Thursday....

Eventhough I'd taken Cimzia previously, they still made the in-home nurse come for my first Humira injection (which was a joke...she had no information with her.  I gave her the dosing instructions from the Humira box and she read them outloud to me while I followed them!).  I only started with 2 injections, since I'd been on Cimzia before then and we only waited 2 weeks in between the two.

I had my husband take me to get my loading doses. I wanted him there just in case I didn't feel well after the injections. I was glad he was there because I was such a basket case BEFORE the injections! The dr's office made me watch a video about Humira, then the nurse gave me 2 injections and had me give myself the other 2. I felt fine other than the burning which went away within a few minutes. After about 2 months of Humira I had to start doing benadryl before each injection because I get really shaky muscles from it an hour or so after I take it. I don't know if the benadryl keeps that from happening or not, because it puts me to sleep! Loading doses usually means 4 injections, 2 more in 2 weeks. Then you start the 1 dose every 2 weeks schedule. Unless your doc does it differently!

goldy3, I forgot to respond about the benedryl.  I did premedicate before the Humira and still ended up with injection site reactions.  When I told my GI, he told me to also take Zantac a few days before (I thought that sounded really silly, but it does really help me).

zena...zantac, isn't that for gerd?...I already take aciphex daily....interesting though....
