Do you pay 90/10 of the catastrophe insurance? If so, I'm afraid they may not have lied. A lot of people without chronic conditions would consider this "good" insurance since they are only paying 10% and for catastrophic insurance, $3,000 is a low deductible. I have seen them as high as $25,000 believe it or not. The place I am going to be working offers three plans - one is a PPO, one is an HMO, and the other is this HSA with catastrophe insurance thing. It is offered through blue cross and is considered "a plan." How they can call it that is really beyond me. However, there was a certain amount of routine stuff covered too like regular check ups and blood work and stuff. You might want to look into the fine print of your plan.
Next, I would try to find out what counts as being covered. Is it just after you meet your $3,000 everything is covered? If so, that wouldn't be that bad. It would suck to pay it all at once but it really only works out to $250 a month which is cheaper than most health care plans. Or is it that it won't cover anything pre-existing and no prescriptions, etc.
Sorry you ended up in this situation.
