Anyone here on Colazal for crohns?

I was wondering if anyone is on Colazal for Crohns? And is it working? I have been on it since October, finished the prednisone and D came back as soon as i stopped the steroids.I spend most of the morning in the bathroom and then too wiped out to do anything else.Sometimes it hits in the middle of the night and then I am tired from being up in the night.I know everyone on here knows what Im talking about!I just feel like the Colazal isnt doing what it is supposed to do,but maybe this is as good as it gets.I was on asacol when I was first diagnosed 6 years ago-I dont remember the D being this bad.Ihate to have to get back on prednisone,but I may have to.Is it hard to switch from one non steroidal drug to another as far as cramping and other side effects?

I'm on Colazal and it has helped me a great deal. I noticed an improvement within 1-2 weeks on it, and it gradually helped more and more. If you've been on it since October and you're still that sick, maybe it's not the right medication for you. I took Lialda before I started Colazal, and the Lialda made my symptoms worse, so sometimes you have to try different meds until you find the right one.

Thanks!I havent seen many people on here that take colazal...asocal made my symptoms worse as well so I went the all natural route for a long time.I had an appt with GI and even tho i was feeling fine he said I needed to get back on asocol-so I did,and it was horrible.I stopped taking it and felt great within a few days.Colazal hasnt made me feel like that,but the D is out of control,painful,but not like a flare painful.I am going next week for a second opinion and see what this Dr.says-What a vicious cycle.

             I've been on Colazal for 5 years.  I had a bad flareup and was hospitalized for 10 days ...went on remicade and 6mp - prednisone you name it..dr. took me off all except for remicade and put me on colazal.  So far ok.....i stopped remicade and just took colazal.   just came off a falre up ---so i decided to go on remicade.   still taking colazal.   dr. says it's my "maintenance"....i have to do what i have to do for myself----i have 3 young kids...i need to function.  i feel for you!!

I have been on colazaal for two years and i dont think it is working for me anymore. Although it seems that after awhile i have to switch to a new maintenance drug. I have been on Asacol, and sulfasalazine and then the colazaal- i would let your doctor know and see about trying something else. That is what I am going to do.

I have been on Colazal for more than 10 years. It works well as a maintenance drug with very few side effects, but if you have a bad flare it is not going to stop it. My experience has been that if you can get the flare under control (using Pred or Imuran or 6MP or something else) then the Colazal may keep you from having another one real soon. I went for 8 years between my first really bad flare and the second one and 5 years between the second one and the third one. I have had a really hard ttime with this last flare. I had side affects to the Remicade and I am now preparing to go off Humira after 2 years ( because of too many side effects. I am still on the colazal so I'll have to see how things go because I never really got into full remission with the Humira. Good luck

I've been on Colazal (and now the generic of it) since 2004. It put me in remission for 3 1/2 years. Colazal is simply a maintenance drug. It is targeted to the large intestine and is meant to calm ulcers and/or inflammation. So between my 1st Colonoscopy & my 2nd one, nothing had changed - which was a good thing, meaning the Colazal was doing what it was supposed to do.

That doesn't mean I haven't had a flare or been sick with Crohn's symptoms while on the Colazal. But I will most always stay on this drug for maintenance purposes.
