ha! One more thing I did not expect with this disease. Last yr when my PG was active I was denied life insurance. Now they tell me the premium will be 200-250% higher b/c of the Crohns. Ha! what a depressing joke. Anyone have similar experience?

yup...good luck to all of us! the certainly don't like crohns!!!
the only way to get decently priced life insurance is through your work if it's offered.

Well its just ridiculous! I have a bit through my work but not as much as I would like! After 3 yrs at work I will get more.. so I guess we wait it out..

Oh yes- I went to work as a teacher for the state and was denied life insurance period b/c it had been less than a year that I had been hospitalized for Crohns. I resigned after that year of teaching and waited three years and the policies had changed and as a new hire that second time around- as long as I applied for all benefits classified as a New Hire- I was allowed and approved for every benefit offered; However, if I had waited on open Enrollment I would have been required to answer medical questions. So- from my experience, try to get every benefit offered- when you are first hired

My husband has Crohns and I tried to add some life insurance (an amount in addition to what is normally provided by my job) and he was denied.  I tried to appeal - even had my attorney draw up a letter for me as well as a letter from his gastro guy and they wouldn't budge.  When I asked them if they were telling me that Crohns was a life threatening disease - they got all weird and said that it was possible that he would have a higher chance of developing colon cancer.  I told them actually he was better off than the rest of us because he gets scoped at least once a year and sometimes twice a year so he would discover his colon  (rectal - etc) cancer quicker than the general population - you know the old spiel about early detection...I might as well have been talking to the wall.  So, we now buy lots of accidental insurance.
