I was taken off of Remicaide and started on Humira.  I have had the first 8 injections so far.  My doctor has not asked for any blood work, nor called me after I started the Humira.  Yet I have lost 38 pounds in 6 months and just look like hell.  I am so embarrassed.  I am 5'7 and 112.  I know that he should be requesting blood tests, being on 6mp and Humira but he hasn't.  I am just tired and fed up!  The doctors today just don't care.

Totally agree with you there, as long as we don't bother them to much they are nice but as soon as there is a big problem they don't understand, they disappear.

Mine hasn't asked for any work to be done either, and I have been on humira since September, prednisone since last May. No blood tests or bone density tests. And no response whenever I inquire about them. He is such a good doctor otherwise though so I don't understand...

Look for a new GI and in the mean time ask one of your other doctors to do the blood work.

It's funny, you know, because they will sure as heck contact you if they need to be paid!! Otherwise, there is an extreme lack of communication. I had a GI at the Naval Medical Center San Diego (Balboa Hospital) who was awesome about staying in contact. He ordered any and all necessary tests for me, plus he would actually call me (himself!) to see how I was doing and how I was handling any changes. He is by-far the best doc I've had thus far. All I ask is that the doctor actually knows about your history and who you are when you show up for your appointment. Also, it would be nice if they listened to you.... really LISTENED! Obviously, I have a chip on my shoulder, but it's just not right!

wow.  i think you guys need to find new docs fast.  my docs have always been extremely communicative- to the point of calling late at night or on the weekends if need be.  i wouldn't have it any other way.  maybe i've just been lucky, but i did some research before i chose one...

My GI didn't have me do any blood work until I'd been on Humira for about 5 months.  He said he likes to do it every few appointments, but he usually only has me come in every 3 or 4 months.  I've gotta say, it took me three docs to even find one this good and specialists are so busy where I live, you usually don't get an appointment for months.  It's not as easy as just finding another doctor when one doesn't order labs regularly.  If you ask for labs and they say no, then you have a problem, but just because they don't follow up well on their own doesn't mean you should find another doc.  Good luck finding a GI around here who does follow up on his own and makes sure he gets you in to see him in a timely fashion.

i understand how sometimes you can feel. at my worst i was 110 pounds, and i am a 6 foot tall male. i remember gulping for air after climbing even one flight of steps. the tough stuff always hits at the worst time, i know, but it seems that there is always a turnaround somewhere ahead.
