Cronicpain - I'm sorry that no one answered you as quickly as you had hoped. Our members are located worldwide and are in many different time zones. Therefore, they visit these forums at various times.

If one of your physicians diagnosed you with Crohn's based on biopsies, why did you leave him/her? Did that doctor begin treating you for Crohn's?

It took over 25 years to get a diagnosis. In the beginning I was told I had spastic colon, nervous bowels, or that I was just stressed. I was in a medical care system where I never saw the same doctor which added to the lack of continuity. Others here have also struggled getting a diagnosis.

Have you tried locating a gastroenterologist in your community that specializes in inflammatory bowel diseases [IBD]? If you are in the US, the CCFA has a physician member directory. These members are mostly specialists in IBD. Their inclusion in the directory does not warrant that they will have great bedside manners or anything, but it is a place to start.

I would say that whatever the biopsy results say are the correct diagnosis. This does not mean that you don't have other conditions. You could have small bacterial overgrowth or something on top of Crohn's. Personally, once I got the right tests, I had basically a textbook case, so it was very easy to identify that I had Crohn's, but most people have a lot more trouble than I did with a diagnosis - I just got lucky. The problem with Crohn's is that even if you have a clean scope like you did, it doesn't mean that you don't have Crohn's, it just means that there is no ACTIVE inflammation. You can also have Crohn's in your small intestine somewhere where the scope would not see. Have you had a pill cam or done an upper GI series? They may help. I would consider looking for a doctor who specializes in IBD though, a lot of doctors are confusing because they don't understand the disease. Good luck!
