why a liquid diet might be suggested, it depends on the patient. It can be a last resort if nothing else works, but some people prefer it to other treatments for Crohn's because it can be as effective as steroids without the side effects. It works best for people with small intestinal disease or mixed small and large intestinal involvement, and least well for those with disease in the large intestine only (some of the latter will still respond, but the odds are less good).
