Has anyone has a normal bowel movement after a resection? I take about 5 Imodiums a day, and still nothing formed. And I go to the bathroom multiple times(2-4). Just wondering.

How long ago was your surgery? Sometimes it takes a few weeks (up to 6) for the bowels to adjust to the changes. If you are just a few weeks out, then I would give it some more time. And actually 2-4 is not that bad. Good luck!

My surgery was about 13-14 weeks ago. Yeah I agree 2-4 isn't bad at all, but its a different story if I eat more. :) lol And I was wondering why the same foods before surgery hurt just as bad now. (salads, pizza, etc) I was told b/c I have IBS along with CD?

I had my surgery October 1st and I still go about 6 times a day and its loose as ever. I don't really expect to ever have a real "normal" bowel movement. Can't remember what that is like. Just might be your body.

Hi I stayed on low residue diet after my surgery and eat a banana in the am which helps.. lol gail

What and how much did they take out/......I have had 3 feet of my large bowel removed , and when I had the surgery in

1987 they told me you can eat whatever you want....Yeah right. Half the food I could eat before hurts me  so bad. Also I always have the feeling to go to the bathroom , it is so frustrating. I have also been told, that I also have ibs and cd....

I have had 4 resections over the years and have not had a formed bowel movement since 1975.  My resections were all in the TI. If the urgency to go is not too strong, the loose stools are not bad. (taking 4-8 Imodium per day) You mention that Pizza and Salads bother you.  Those are two foods that I avoid when I am not feeling well.  I only eat those and a few others foods when I am feeling really good.  After a surgery I stay on a low residue diet longer than the docs recommend then I add foods slow enough so that I know how my body will react to the foods.  Also I have found that with CD, I do not recoup as fast as the normal person.  Therefore I go slow adding new foods and rest as much as I can until my gut is healed from the surgery.

I have to watch what I eat more now since my resections. I live on a low residue diet ALL the time now. I no longer eat red meat either. The doctor told me that alot of my problems are now mechanical. In other words, due to the surgical changes, I can get mechanical blockages or flare related problems if I eat the wrong things. Pizza and salad are no no's for me too. I think you might want to keep a food diary and avoid those that give you problems. Good luck!

Lovetolaugh- I don't remember what I normal BM is either. Sometimes its nice though cause I would rather go all the time, then try for an hour. I guess lol. I would switch back and fourth before my surgery. (btn going all the time, to wishing I could)

gachrons-I can't eat bananas for some reason!! They hurt my stomach, in the afternoon I can sometimes eat them, but usually i try not to bother, Its just like milk and ceral though, cant eat that either in the morning!!

Carmen-They took out only 16 inches, a lot less compared to your 3 feet. wow. It is frustrating though. I sometimes feel after work that I spend half of my night in the bathroom, instead of with the family!! I really wish sometimes that I could eat whatever I wanted but I guess that's life with CD.

fimk- Yeah, I sometimes just eat the toppings off the Pizza, just to get a taste, LOL. But usually I regret that also. So I really try to avoid it. But my husband and 4 yr old love it, so atleast one night a week they cook and eat it, SUCH a tease! lol

Nanners- I haven't really wrote down any of the foods, but I try to keep it in mind what I can't eat. But I think I will start writing it down b/c sometimes I forget. And eat it, and then within 10 mins, I'm in my bathroom, thinkin why didn't i remember that. Like mac and cheese. wooh.

Sometimes it just gets so frustrating living with this disease. And I tend to get down and wonder why me, but in the end I am just thankful I'm still here and able to to live life with my kids, husband, family, and friends. It just gets hard sometimes and no one in my family has CD. And don't get me wrong, I have a ton of support (im very thankful) But it's really nice to have joined this website and able to talk to all of y'all who are living with this too. And I just wanna say thanks :)
