Has anyone ever gotten pleuresy and had it last a long time?  I found out that if you have immune system disorders, you can get this.  Nancy

I just got this after having a horrible cough/cold for 2 weeks. I blame the Imuran for my body's inability to fight this cold and for it almost turning into pneumonia. The pain in my ribs actually got so intense that I thought I broke my rib bone - it was awful. I went to the doctor and she did a chest x-ray and said I have pleuresy. She prescribed me 600 mgs Ibuprofen to take every 8 hours for the first few days, then just as needed. After a week of the Ibuprofen every 8 hours, I am not just taking it at night before bed (the pain makes it uncomfortable to sleep). I really really hope this goes away soon.

Have you been diagnosed with pleuresy yet? If you do have the rib pain, make sure you get it checked out. I put it off too long and almost ended up in the hospital b/c of it (the pain was also masking a minor lung infection).

This is the 2nd time I've come down with it AFTER being on a long course of Prednisone. I went to the doc after 2 weeks of pain-they said I had Pleuresy but did no chest xray. Said I should take a short course of steroids-like I wanna do that after being on them for 6mos and just getting off of them. 1 1/2 weeks later, finally went back to doc, they did a chest xray and actually tested my heart-um, what is that test where they put stickers on your chest and attach cords? Anyway, both were normal, doc said the Pleuresy could last about a month and if it doesn't go away, come back. Hope it doesn't turn into anything worse cuz I'm going on vacation for 1 1/2 weeks. Wow;

I think I have had this on and off for a long time. I thought it was from not taking calcium, and weakened bone mass causing the rib pain. It is my left side, second or third rib down, always in the exact same spot. I would take calcium and the rib pain would go away. To me it is not severe, but still...

Don't think it is active at the moment. I am going to look into this more.

Geez the body is so complicated.

Also called pleuritis, pleurisy typically causes sharp pain, almost always when you take a breath.
