I just realized this is what I have been taking for my teeth...I'm just worried since it's an NSAID. Does anyone take this without problems? I can't just stop taking it obviously...

Im on remicade and still take an Alieve when needed. I told my docs I did that and they didnt freak out at all. They just said that it "can" irritate your digestive tract. I told them Tylenol does nothing for me and they just said ok.

Ooooh. I'd still query it, though. Perhaps they can provide an alternative med.

Some people with CD can tolerate NSAIDs. I used to take several a day and then when diagnosed I stopped. It did seem like I had fewer gut issues. Then tried them per several doctors' instructions because of my severe arthritis. They helped the arthritis but irritated the heck out of my intestines and caused lots of leg edema. So no NSAIDS for me. Hwoever, we have some people here that have successfully used them without exacerbating the CD.

I will definitely be calling the GI tomorrow then...they did prescribe another painkiller which I am taking, but they said the ibuprofen was also supposed to help with swelling and nausea. I stopped taking it after two and noticed those two symptoms increase...
Thanks for your responses by the way. I have generally tried to avoid NSAID's, but I guess there will always be an exception where avoidance is questioned...

I only take Tylenol, with a couple of exceptions..... A year ago I developed Shingles, and my GI hesitantly let me take it for three days because the pain was horrific. Also, maybe a couple of times a year, if I have a bad headache that Tylenol won't help. No problems with it, but I try to avoid it at all costs and stick to Tylenol. It's a shame that NSAID's are bad for us, because I find it works so well..... Blessings, Julie

The nurse called back and said it would be fine since it's only for a little while. Thank goodness..

I was diagnosed with CD in Feb of this year.  I got a second opinion and the new GI thinks I have NSAID's induced IBD not crohn's.  I was taking prescription strength neproxin for back pain.  He said that Ibuprofen is very bad and can cause IBD and crohn's flare-ups.

I just had another colon scope and I will swallow the camera on Monday, can't wait to se what they have to say!!

if you have have have to take it - take something to protect you stomach - i dont know the generic names of these drugs - the brand names are zoton, nexium - think the class of drugs they belong to are proton -pump inhibitiors - they protect your stomach -& upper gi tract from inflammation & ulcers & bleeding - defo defo defo at the least take one of these for protection

I'm already on omeprazole so things seem to be fine...
Honestly, the only side effects I am experiencing right now are itchiness all over (most likely from the anesthesia) and frequent urination.
My stomach is even less upset than it has been...although I attribute this to my gut having a rest from solid food and also the narcotics' effects. I am also on hydrocodone and cephalexin (an antibiotic).

I was on rx ibuprofin and then rx naproxen before my diagnosis. Both times after day 3 or 4 I got very sick. So just be careful.

I agree with Wild Swan on this one. I had an extraction and minor jaw surgery a few weeks ago. I was on heavy doses of ibuprofen and vicodin. After a few days my stomach started acting up so I stopped the ibuprofen. I currently take celebrex on and off for arthritis and my doc gave me nexium to take with it to protect my guts. Feel well soon.

I will make sure and keep an eye out on how things are doing for sure then...although it will be difficult to differentiate between the antibiotics or the ibuprofen being the cause. Hopefully I won't need the ibuprofen for the full ten days' worth though.

Advil/Ibuprofin is the *only* thing that will stop my headaches. I cannot take Tylenol or Excedrin, anything with 'acetaminophen, because it will make me FAINT right out and I cannot rest or 'sleep-it-off' because I will wake up with an even worse headache. If I feel even a hint of a headache, I either eat (because most of my headaches are due to not eating 'in time') or take Ibu with a small glass of milk. I will also make more of an effort to drink water, in case the cause was mild dehydration. I usually only need to take advil/ibu a small handful of times a year. Possibly 3-5 times? ...and I seem to tolerate that very well.
