Well the husband knows and my doctor does but I am pregnant!  I can't believe I just typed that.  For those if you who have read my posts before, I was going to do an invitro cycle but this happened naturally.

SO..I'm on Apriso and Align.  Doc took me off of flagyl and cipro.  Since about 2 weeks ago my seeming remmission has turned into flare symptoms.  Could it be the change in hormones?  I'm really worried about this and how it will effect my little bean.

I'm about 4.5 weeks along.  Really early.

Doc sent me for a follow up blood test to make sure the numbers rise accordingly so I will know more today.  I will have an early sono next week if all goes right to make sure that they bean is in the right spot.  The doc said that with abdominal surgery (resection 2 years ago) there is a chance the embryo could end up in my tubes instead due to adhesions. Great, more anxiety.  Just say no to adhesions.  The CT scan and colonoscopy showed nothing like that though.

So praying for good things but worried about these symptoms.  Both the OB and GI agree it could be hormone related.  I am a high risk case and both docs have agreed to watch me closely.  That makes me feel better.

Your thoughts?

One of the gals in my Crohns support group was pregnant.  She is a young 19 yr old.  Knew from the get-go all the health issues her baby had, but regardless of that, she felt great during her whole pregnancy.  Her doctor even kept her on the Remicade.  There were several others who stated that while they were pregnant, they stayed in remission and attributed that to the pregnancy.  So, I guess the hormones related to pregnancy can play out both ways.  I hope yours is only a temporary set-back and that you'll have a great pregnancy with very little crohns activity.  This really just goes to show how individual crohns is.  Its not the same for any two people.  I guess thats why it's been so hard for the powers to be to find a cure or to even know what to do to treat it huh?

It could just be from nerves too.  I get that typical nervous stomach thing too.

I stopped taking the pre-natals because they were giving me a problem but the doc just said to take the folic acid for now.  So far so good.  Today seems better.

If I'm not pooping, I'm thinking about not pooping and I think that is stressing me out.

Bluize, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! I do think your increase in symptoms right now is probably because of hormones. Many have successfully had babies while on Imuran/6mp, Remicade and Humira, so maybe one of those can be used to help your Crohns if needed. I am just so happy for you. Will keep fingers, toes and whatever crossed that all goes well for you.

Nanners, thanks so much.  I'm thrilled and terrified all at the same time.  I don't know anyone on this board personally so I thought it was safe to say it here.  I had to tell someone!!!

The Apriso was working so well.  My Gi doc said we could try remicade but I am scared about that but it's all about the baby now.  They all seem so confident about the remicade for pregnancy but I'm so anti meds it goes against my grain.

I will formally announce it to the family when I get a heart beat on my sono in a few weeks.  Right now we are concerned with where the emby landed and having my levels rise.

I walk around with a perpetual smile and everyone is telling I look different.  Ha!  I'm going to look very different soon! (fingers crossed)

I'm concerned about my high risk status.  All the docs agree about a c-section due to crohns.  They don't want me pushing.  That's all I need another line on my belly.

Congratulations Bluize! Waiting to tell is really hard isn't it? I'm really excited for you. I remember having that perpetual smile. You'll get it when the little one is born too, just thinking about him/her.

The blood test was great!  Great numbers.  So I have a sono appt next Thursday to make sure the nugget is in the right place.

WooHoo on the blood test. Bluize, a healthy Mommy produces a healthy baby. I tell you this so that you can think about meds. Its better to stay healthy now, its better for you and your baby. This is a disease you really can't be med free with, the consequences are not good. I tried the med free route once and ended up paying dearly for it because I had to have an emergency resection due to complete obstruction. While I was busy getting on with my life, the Crohns was still in there doing its damage on a microscopic level until I finally obstructive. Was a VERY painful experience.

Also, many women will flare after childbirth because of the big drop in hormones. Taking meds now will help to avoid that. You do want to be able to enjoy your new baby and not be sick right? Just some things for you to think about.

Good luck with your baby and your decisions.

Congrat's!! How exciting!! I had issues with my Crohn's when I got pregnant. The first 3 months or so things
were more active. But once things settled down I felt my best I ever felt when I was pregnant with our son.
He is 3 years old now.

wow, I never heard of them choosing a c section just from having crohns alone....I had to have one, but it was from baby distress during labour that had nothing to do with crohns (the cord was around his neck), since my symptoms were basically non existant while I was pregnant they didn't even really pay attention to the fact I had crohns!

I  hope you feel better, nerves could cause the problems as others say, but as alot of us experienced and alot of doctors told me pregnancy tends to make us feel ALOT better for that time, sure did for me, I dropped my meds and everything while I was pregnant and still felt great, I hope your pregnancy turns out to be that easy!!

well I had a resection and peri-anal disease so they don't want me pushing.  Add that I'm 42 and I get a high risk status.

I will certainly ask about a vaginal birth again but all the docs agree.

Congrats!! Oh how hard it must be to keep your wonderful news a secret.

When I was pregnant for both my girls I flared the first month and then all was well. I think it was the stress and change in hormone levels. I will be praying for you and your family.

Hormones can change your Crohn's either way. Any hormonal change can actually...mine was not for the best unfortunately, but I don't want my experience to be a solid standard.
I really wish you the best of luck, and I am so happy for you...

Just try and relax about everything, it could very well be the hormonal changes, hang tight, some women actually go into remission during pregnancy so think positive and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Thanks everyone.  I had a rough night so I called the gastro.  He said to do low residue..try to rest more and if I don' t feel better with that to take entocort (since that always gave me some relief from flares quickly) .

I ate like an idiot for a few days so that wasn't helpful.  I'm just so scared to lose this baby if I am flaring.  I feel that at my age with my infertility issues, this was a blessing.  I don't want to lose this gift.  I have so much anxiety about it.  I had to go off the flagyl and cipro because they were not indicated for pregnancy.  Those two meds were the silver bullet for me.  I know the Apriso was working prior to the pregnancy since I never felt better but as soon as my hormone levels changed I didn't feel as good.

If I can get through the first tri with minimal issues I can go back on flagyl in the 2nd.

I'm getting ahead of myself but as you can tell I'm scared and overthinking.

I could definitely use to be talked off the ledge.

Hi, congratulations on the pregnancy!  When I got pregnant with my daughter, the first few months were rough w/my Crohn's  I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was about 3 months, because I just thought I was having a Crohn's flare.  I was nauseous (thought it was Crohn's), and I had a lot of D.  But it started clearing up by my 4th month.  I have a feeling Crohn's patients experience morning sickness in a different way than other pregnant women.  So don't be scared!  I understand where you are coming from, because I felt the same way, but I am sure you will start feeling better in a couple of months.  Hopefully, like me, you will start feeling the best you have ever felt!  Good luck, and keep us posted!

Thanks Brittany. I had a little discharge (TMI) and I called the doc. The nurse told me that is normal and I should just lookout for cramping and blood. Even that could be normal though.

Hang in there an enjoy this blessing as much as you can. It's normal for all pregnant women to be scared and worried at first, but more so for us. You don't really ease up on that until you look and feel pregnant. Once that baby can move, you have constant reassurance that he/she is okay.

I stuck to low residue the whole time (I generally do anyway). I find it really helps.

I moved my sono up to Monday and one of the fellows at the clinic will see me early. I hope that will put my mind at ease. I went on Entocort and the soreness in my gut is better. I knew it would work. I had a lot of bowel movements last night. I don't know why but toward the late afternoon and night I go more. I went 3 times last night including 1am.

Waiting for the Gi doc to call back. I hope he calls me today so I don't have to worry all weekend.
I think it's time for a discussion about Remi or Humira.
Are there tests you have to have done before you can go on these meds?
