Bloody pieces of tissue in stools

Hi there,

I know you all have not heard from me in such a long time, i have been quite busy. However there are some new developments or shall I say new problems that I have been having concerning my tummy, and digestive system.

Not sure if i should be posting here or not, but was hoping for some answers, or that somebody else might have experienced this.

I have been having what I thought was a blockage for a few weeks now, according to the docs and the hospital I have no blockage, my stools will not stay regular, and there is blood through them.

Now, well starting yesterday I guess, I have been having pieces of bloody tissue in my stool or in the toilet, Im thinking that this is not normal, correct me if Im wrong, but this has never happened before, its something very new.

They are looking into giving me an endoscopy to do a small bowel biopsy to test to see if I have celiac disease, but I just keep getting symptom after symptom and there is nothing wrong apparently.

My stomach is very very gassy, and distended at all times.

I'm really at a loss, and dont know what to do anymore, I have been quite sick for quite some time, am still losing weight, and still lacking nutrients and stuff.

Im just wondering what this tissue could be, if anything, or if its even anything to worry about?

The first time that I went yesterday there was a piece about the size of a dime, and the second time I went today, I had about 4 or 5 pieces, the size of a quarter.

Im real worried and not sure what to think about this........

any insites or info would be greatful, thank you

You should always report new symptoms to your GI...what you're describing sounds like bloody mucus, usually if CD is affecting the colon/rectom bleeding and excess mucus (as well as combined bloody mucus) is fairly common. If those are the places CD is affecting you then typically bleeding/mucus is a common symptom but you should be taking meds that target that/those area(s).

I do not have a gi, and have not been diagnosed with cd, they say I dont have anything, it looks like cotton balls, not mucous, actual tissue like pieces........ thanks though,

I still think you need to contact your doctor about this. If you do not have a GI, I would suggest getting one. They are the best at diagnosing our disease. Good luck!

I am in the process of getting one, I had one from when I lived in the different town, but now i have moved since december, the one there didnt find anything, but now i have been referred by the hospital to a gi here, however, they could call me within a month I have been in and out of the hospital with out of control bowel, and blood and cramping and everything and they cant find anything wrong, I thank you for your post, nanners

Sounds exactly like what I started having a few weeks ago. Sometimes it's with my regular BM but most of the time, I feel like I need to have a BM and so I sit and make the effort but all I get are chunks, globs, or whatever you want to call them, of bloody mucous. I have also noticed streaks of blood and an over excessive amount of mucous on my BM's. I've dealt with my Crohns for over 13-yrs now and this is the first time I've had this issue. I'm waiting for my GI doc to get back into town so I can discuss this new development with her. Her nurse and the on-call doc told me to just raise my dose of Prednisone up to 20mg. I didn't want to do that but raised it to 10mg since that is what my doc told me to do before she left if my symptoms got worse. How come everytime she goes out of town my CD acts up?? Dang it all anyway........!!!

Im not on anything right now, well a stomach pill because they think I might have a bleeding ulcer because of the little bit of blood in my stool before and the gas in my stomach, I was backed up, and had gas from my stomach to my esophagus, that I could not get rid of:(
I really really wish they could find out what is wrong with me soon.

I dont have a GI as of yet, I was referred to one, still waiting on a call, and that just happened like a week ago......

I would suggest you ask your doctor about doing a pill cam. This a camera pill you swallow and it takes pictures all the way down. This has been one of the best tests for them to diagnose Crohns in the small bowel where the scopes can't reach. Good luck!

long time ago i used to have that..mine was mucus and animal tissue(meat) mixed..the blood was brighter and it was from hemis. If its dark its from within, prolly should go get that checked.

yes, I agree withmost other posters, it is probably mucus and not tissue. It can look like tissue at times. I have had bloody mucus (not to be gross, but we have to be sometmes, dont we?) that is so dense it actually sinks sometimes. It's scary and doesn't look good at all, to say the least. They range is size and can be mixed in, or not...it depends. regardless, definitely mention it to your doctor.

My stomach is also very distended all the time. It used to just be after I ate, but now it's 24/7. It looks freakish because I'm pretty small (usually about 113 pounds) but my belly is huge and I look about 4-5 months pregnant! I've resorted to wearing very baggy tops, and if I'm able to, I un-do my jeans because the wasit doesn't fit on them anymore. I was considering maternity pants!

I have ulcerative colitis (although some have called it crohn's) and I often have what you described. They always tell me that it is "normal" and not to worry unless there is a cupfull of blood. dumb advice LOL.
Tell the doc. You could always see if you could get a sterile container from the doc and "catch" some of it before it hits the water. then they could analyze it.

Your provincial health care will cover the costs of all your tests...mucus can take on many forms but it's still likely mucus, the sooner you get into see a GI the better.

If they've called it crohn's then they probably mean you have crohn's colitis which is not the same as having ulcerative colitis...crohn's colitis is the basic term used when CD is affecting the colon.
