eyes  Well, I go in on the 16th.  I know that I have mentioned it before, yet I am a little concerned.  My surgery is going to be done laproscopically.  They are going to take away 3-4 inches of my colon, so they say but I am still concerned.  Is there a lot of pain involved?  It doesn't entail a bag but my doctor doesn't know if there is cancer above the part that they are going to take out.  Thank you everyone!

I had laproscopic surgery 5 weeks ago and it went well. I have tiny inscissions. Recovery, for me, took longer than I thought it would. Hopefully you dont have to work for a few weeks afterwards.

I have had two resections but mine were both open surgeries. Mine was painful, but I wouldn't worry so much about that because they keep you comfortable with pain meds. You should try to walk as soon as allowed and keep walking as much as possible. That will help your bowels to wake and start working again. I was out of work 6-8 weeks for my surgeries. I'm having a laporoscopic surgery for a biopsy soon... I was told it is the best option for surgery, as it is less invasive and so has less chance of infection and complications. I had one a long time ago, and while it does make things sore in the belly for a bit, recovery is good, since you have a fairly small incision. Very little scarring, can barely even see it. you will need to rest up after though, no lifting or bending...

It's been eight weeks since I had lapro colon resection. Don't remember the pain much except when trying sit up or get out of bed in the hospital. Didn't require any pain meds after being released. Incisions healed up nicely.

They might have to take a little more than 3-4 inches to get to healthy tissue, don't be too concerned.

I felt good fairly quickly but tried to remember not to overdue it for 4-6 weeks and there were some things my surgeon said not to do for for 8 weeks. That means I should be good to go.

I have had several Laps. Most recent for Gall bladder removal. Everything went well except for the pain meds and anesthesia. I don't respond well to either and it ake a tremendous amount o put me under. Unfortunately I developed a blockage after I got home and was readmitted two days later. It is imperative that you walk as mentioned above. thsi will allow gravity to assist in the motility process. Just be aware that you also have to rest. if you can do witout the post op painillers when you get home I would try. The Lap itself is a much better way to do the procedure. My dad had a 6" incision to remove 3 inches of his colon. His recovery took months.

I had mine done in Feb. of this year, you'll be up and at it before you know it. The worst pain that I had was in my shoulders from ther gas that they pump into you, that went away after about a week for me.

I've also had two Laps. Your gonna do great! Let them know your nervous and they'll give you something to relax you right away before surgery.
After, It is good to get up and move around...however, after my first lap I was kept on bed rest....meaning I couldn't get out of bed for 24 hours. I had 12 inches taken out. They want you to gradually walk etc. Don't overdue because your in a pretty fragile state at first. Having and auto-immune disease you don't always heal fast...give yourself time! Take the full amount of time they give you off of work! And nap! It is natural to see some blood in your stool after surgery. I tell you not to scare you but, to inform...it scared me because I didn't know. As far as anesthesia...you can ask for some they call a "wake-up" cocktail. When I have anesthesia I can stay in the fog for days. So after tell my anesthesiologist about it he had this remedy that help! Make sure you keep on top of your pain ....but, your not gonna have much after a lap...
