VERY SCARED ABOUT BLOOD WORK RESULTS...

i am a 20 y.o. female diagnosed w/ Crohn's last December. I am on Pentasa 3x per day 2 tabs. I just got back blood work results that precede a physical I'm scheduled for, but not for another 3 weeks. I am terrified at the results. My lymphs % was very high 55%, neuts very low 36% , just slightly low on MCH and MCVH-(?) don't know if I used the correct letter for those two. Other results were within normal limits- WBC, HCT, HGB,platelets etc. I generally feel okay, some cramping and diarhhea, tired at times, but nothing severe.i haven't had to change my diet and am fairly active. Everything on the internet says my results could mean leukemia or some issue with my bone marrow. Could I have something worse than Crohn's? The lymphs and neuts in December were all normal I was diagnosed through a colonoscopy and bloody stools.
That's why I'm very upset. Are these lab results to expected for Crohn's? Could I have some kind of anemia or be bleeding internally?I admittedly don't always take all 3 daily doses of the Pentasa. Could this have to do with it? MY GI doc is out of the office until next week, so I will call him. MY PCP is not much help with anything out of the ordinary. I don't know if high lymps/low neuts mean I'm having a flare-up or it has to do w/ chronic inflammation. Sorry to ramble on. Just afraid... Any and all thoughts very appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

My daughter had high lympho/low neutro when she deveoped mononuclesosis, so I guess the combination could mean almost anything, including a viral infection. Coincidentally, she was trialing Pentasa at the time, so we stopped it immediately because with issues like an enlarged spleen, the last thing her body needed, at the time, was a new Crohn's med. 

It is doubtful you have anemia, because your HGB looks fine.  

Did you have the sed rate and CRP done - these are the best indicators of inflammation for Crohn's.

Well lymphocytes are what attack and kill germs, neutrophils are what fight off bacterial infection. I would say that the neutrophils could be lowered by medication, however since Pentasa doesn't affect your immune system, it must be something else. I don't even remember ever hearing anything about either of the 2 from my doctors (I never get copies of my bloodwork, so I can't compare), but it sounds like you could have some sort of infection, and it's possible it's from the Crohn's. I could be wrong though, I just looked this up quickly for you. It could mean a lot of things, but if you are concerned, you should really try to get into the doctor sooner. If it was something like leukemia though, I think they would have pushed your appointment up once they saw your test results, so I don't think you have to worry there. :)

If you had internal bleeding/anemia, your hgb would be low, so that isn't the problem.

Hope this helps a bit, sorry for not knowing more about this! lol.

By the way, were you getting over a cold or anything by any chance when you had the blood test done? If so, it could explain the results.

I don't know about Pentasa, but I know when I was on Prednisone, my WBC went up & got really funky. They called with the results & had another test done where they really look at your cells, and it came back as not knowing the cause. Once I was off the meds, they went back to normal (although they are a little high again now).

If you already have the results, so does your doctor, and they should call you for further tests if they are concerned.
