prep question

If I always am having diarrhea, probably about 10 times a day on average, do you think that will make the prep easier? As in, I can probably drink less solution? I think they've ordered colyte or golytely for me. Are these already flavored or must they be mixed with something sweet? The instructions say it "can" be mixed with crystal light for flavor. What do you think? I had a difficult time holding down the phospho soda stuff I remember using before.

I absolutely hate both Golytely(worst name ever for a prep) and colyte as a prep. When they have you drink that gallon of junk it is so hard for me to keep it down and I still have a hard time drinking countrytime lemonade.(which I absolutely used to love before) Now for the good news, I just had a scope a few weeks ago and my G.I. said that they are being warned about the old preps and that they can cause damage to people with IBD. So, when I prepped I had to take a ton of miralax at different times of the day and night with gatorade and had to take ducolax tablets. I was a little worried that this would not fully work for me as I had the horrible experience once of not being fully cleaned out and waking up in the middle of a scope. That was because I could not stop throwing up the prep from trying to drink that whole gallon of crap the night before. My G.I. was upset with me at first until he realized that I had some inflammation that was causing narrowing and blocking in the T.I.(not ready for surgery yet but will have to one day).
Anyway, sorry about the tangent but that stuff drives me nuts. I had no problems with the miralax and love gatorade. I was still in the bathroom all night but did not feel like I was going to die the morning of or night before.

I used Moviprep two weeks ago for my prep and since I have diarrhea on a daily basis it only took one liter of the stuff to clean me out, though I did do half of the other just to be sure. I've had three colonoscopies so far and have never finished the entired prep. Once I get to clear liquid coming out I stop.

Have done the Colyte prep four times now. I don't mix anything with it just keep it cold. It's more the volume than the taste but have always finished it.

 

So the miralax is just pills? How much do you take?

After drinking the entire jug of NuLytely for a scope 2.5 years ago (out of some stupid sense of responsibility), I never finish the whole prep (well, unless it's one of those "drink this little bottle" preps). I go until clear, and then I stop (I've been told that this is okay). Usually 1/2-2/3 of the prep is enough. If I complete the prep, I go from clear to not-as-clear, probably because the prep starts to irritate my intestines/colon. I'd say my favorite prep is the pill prep (OsmoPrep - only had to take half the pills!), but there's some data that it can cause kidney damage, so I'm not sure how much doctors will be using that one in the future.

NuLytely came with "flavor packs." I will say that using one flavor for the whole jug was a mistake. It gets real old, real fast. It goes down way better cold...it didn't actually taste bad, the odd viscosity of the liquid is what I remember.

I've done preps when asymptomatic and preps when I've been quite ill (and was on a clear liquid diet for days beforehand), and it is a bad experience either way...it just takes me longer to recover from it when I'm sick.

With Miralax you get the 200 something size bottle and mix it in 64oz of the fluid of your choice.

When I had a colonoscopy 5 years ago, I was a little backed up and quite sick. It was so hard to get the entire go lightly down. It took me all night and I never went quite clear. I was in the hospital with an IV in my arm and it was horrible. Many times I didn't make it to the toilet and was just mortified. I thought, what if I had been an elderly person? I was then able to get a small glimpse of how they must feel when treated this way, cause you know they are. I am glad I sent my hubby home so he didnt' have to witness all that. I think being impacted is worse than having diarrhea and having to do the prep.

Last January, I took half lightly and I started early in the day.  It wasn't impossible to get down. They said I was squeaky clean and they even went into my small intestines a little bit. It was not a nightmare like the first time.

I have heard there is a miralax prep. You mix it with a clear drink. I will ask for that next time!!
