On Cimzia? How much do you pay?

I am waiting on insurance approval to switch to this from Humira. I'm curious about cost... I feel like I'm between a rock and hard place in my options but know there is a limit to what I can pay. I only paid $40 a box for Humira so I'm hoping it'll be a similar price range.

Knowing all insurance varies, what do you pay?

If you can get in on a trial your costs will be $0, for 1 to 5 years I've been told. Includes Cimzia, all tests (blood, scopes), etc. Can't remember if it includes doctor visits and other drugs.

Ask your GE or other GE clinics. Mine is offering trials for Cimzia and ustekinumab. Or maybe the drug producers would know who in your area is offering them.

I was able to qualify for free Cimzia and the home nurse who gave me the injections. Contact Cimplicity, the maker of Cimzia.

There is a program from Cimzia that pays all but 5.00 of your co-pay too! They will help you with it alot>

So does Cimzia cost about as much as Remicade ($15,000-20,000 / year)?

I dont know why remicade went up so much, the first time I got it about 6 years ago my insurance company was paying the entire thing and that was only $1,600, and by the 5th infusion it was $9,600...to me this is insurance fraud from the makers or hospitals or whoever is upping it, by the way...your insurance company will TELL whoever your getting it from how much they will pay, and no more, and they accept.

I have Blue Shield HMO and I pay nothing (not even my ususal $15 copay for the Dr visit) to see the nurse for Cimzia.

My g.i. docs's nurse told me that they pay 550$ per 100ml vial for remicade. It is weight based, how many vials you need is dependent upon your weight. How the cost gets up and sometimes over 10,000$ per infusion, has to do with paying the hospital staff, or your doctors' office, to watch and administer the drug via an infusion. Some reading is below, if you want to figure out how many vials you would need.

I've been on Cimzia for almost 7 months and haven't paid anything. The Cimplicity program has covered my copays and the home nurse. I thought that was normal for the first year.

Cimplicity told us they would cover the first three months, but then we'd have to cover the rest. I asked them "Do you think I'm on Medicaid because I have the financial resources to pay for this???" There was no point in starting treatments that we couldn't follow through with.

I asked my pharmacist today and Cimzia is $1800 per two 200mg self-administering shots. I think she said it's weekly or biweekly for the first 4-6 weeks, then monthly. So $21,600 per year after the ramp-up period.

I pay nothing. I also didn't pay anything for Humira, I was supposed to have a 20 dollar copay but the company sent me a "credit card" covering my copay up to $2,000.

I never even used it, but I got the card from Cimplicity when Cimzia was new to the market and they said it would cover 100% of my copays (up to a certain amount, but their amount was higher than what my copay would have been) for 12 months. They told me I could apply for the program again after 12 months. So, it should have been free for at least a year.
