From what I hear, this is a heavy duty antibiotic.  Pricey too.  My out of pocket cost was $155 for the 2-weeks I'm supposed to be on it.  Has anybody else been on this drug and if so, did you have any awful side effects?  Thanks for your input.

do you mean Vancomyacin? if so yes many times... no side effects for me.

Ive been on Vancomyacin, as a matter of fact I'm on it right now. My GI actually took me off Flagyl and put me on it because it has fewer side effects.  I haven't had any problem with it. I'm on it for c-diff as well, and was actually taking the liquid form of it by mouth while I was in the hospital.  My co-pay was only 20 bucks though, and I got a 2 month supply. =/

My husband was on vancomycin for 10 months last year - he didn't have any side effects from it. Also, it really is the best antibiotic for fighting c-diff. When taken orally, vancomycin isn't really absorbed systemically, and it is very effective in the colon. Flagyl on the other hand is much harder to take because of the side effects, but of course it is cheaper.

If you are going to be on it for a while, if your insurance does 3 month prescriptions, you can see if your doc will give you one, so you can pay 1 copay for a 3 month supply.

Yes, Vancomyacin is the name brand.  I must have gotten a generic or something cause I spelled it exactly the way it was on the little pill bubble thingie I get the pill out of.  So far, my only side effect has been a LOT of gas.  I guess that's a good thing.  Maybe it's the bugs dying off?  Who knows.
