Crohn's in the the esophagus

Yes, I've had it. I think it took about 9-12 months for things to settle down in that area... but it's a very long time ago now, so I can't remember accurately.

Why do you ask? Are you experiencing the joy of ulcers there now?

When I flare, I often get ulcers and sores in my throat. I recently had an upper endoscopy and they found a stricture in my esophagus and they dilated and stretched my esophagus. GI just said it's common with Crohns, GERD, and all the other fun GI stuff we deal with.

The sores make eating really difficult. Sadly, it's the only time I truly lost any weight was when I was flaring.

Ivy-Yes I have the joy of ulcers there now. I will never again take for granted how wonderful it is to eat and drink things without wanting to scream my head off!!! It is bad enough that our diet is limited because of this disease but to have to limit it further to things can be swallowed easily and hopefully without much pain is really complicated.
Sukay-my throat hurts and it is very difficult to swallow.

First, your meds can cause dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), so check them for side effects. Then, Crohn's of the esophagus is possible - but you would probably have other problems like ulcers there. Then there is acid reflux which can cause scarring of the esophagus and this causes dysphagia. It also would be a long-standing problem. Then we get into less likely alternatives - eosinophilic gastritis causes Crohn's-like symptoms and has dysphagia as a symptom. There are dozens of other possibilities, but these are the more relevant ones.

Hey i have crohn's in my mouth, esophagus(sp)?, and all the way down into the top part of my stomach and intestines.  I was having trouble swallowing and i felt like everything was getting stuck in my throat.  I went for an upper endoscopy and the gi doc said i have ulcerations all the way from my mouth to my stomach.  It's getting better though.  keep us posted on how you're feeling.  good luck.

oh my god I think I have this :S

I have been feeling like crap since June this year in the esophagus hard to swallow feeling like I cant breath and so on.

I have to mention this to my doctor fast this is like killing me so painful.

I have been diagnosed with Crohn's for about 7 years now. At the beginning of my Crohns, I do not remember if I did have ulcers in my esophagus or not, but I do remember having them in my throat & mouth.

7 years later, however, I've been getting them frequently in my mouth & throat.
This is my third time having ulcers in my esophagus.
The first time I had them for about a week or two. I had ulcers in my throat, mouth & esophagus. For this week I did notice I had abdominal pain, pain from the ulcers, pressure in my chest when I ate or drank. The pressure would last for hours too. Feeling of something in my throat too. The ulcers went away by themselves thankfully in 7-10 days.

The next incident wasn't until months later. I experienced the ulcers in the mouth, throat & esophagus. Same symptoms as above only worse. The abdominal pain & spasms were worse. I also experienced diarrhea. My doctor gave me steroids for 4 weeks which worked. Two steroids every morning for two weeks and one every morning for the last two weeks. I was having a mild flare up & thankfully the steroids helped. My advice is to see your doctor and talk to him to see if you are having a flare up & to ask him about steroids.

Unfortunately, a month after using the steroids, the symptoms are back. I am wondering if I am experiencing symptoms of acid reflux or crohns because I have the tightness and pressure in my chest again, ulcers in my throat & mouth, intense stomach pain, trouble breathing, diarrhea, & sore throat.

I am wondering if anyone had acid reflux & if these are symptom*****

I am also on Remicade
