Hello everyone, I just joined today. We don't have any groups around here for Crohn's, and I thought this would be a nice way to talk with other people with some of the same problems. Since I was in my teens I suffered from severe diarrhea at times and they said it was irritable bowel. I started losing weight and had severe pain to where I couldn't hardly function. Finally testing done in 2005 showed Crohn's. I've had multiple flare ups since then. Hospitalized 3 times in the past year and a half. I've been on low dose of prednisone for awhile now. Everytime I try to stop taking it I end up having another flare. I'm on a high dose again now for a recent flare, caught it before it ended in a hospital visit. Some of my meds for Crohn's are Pentasa, Prednisone, Omeprazole, Flagyl when needed, Phenergan when needed. I recently added a probiotic which seems to help with diarrhea. Some of the probiotics are costly, but I found one not expensive. Sometimes it feels like a roller coaster ride, never knowing when the next flare is going to hit.

Sounds like you need to talk to your doctor about
different meds. Maybe something like 6mp might work better to quiet things down for you. It does take about
3 mos to reach full efficacy, but it has worked well to put many in remission and get them off the Pred rollercoaster. Good luck!

Welcome to HW - I agree with Nanners - you need a maintenance med other than prednisone - you should probably bring this up with your GI at your next visit.
