hemorrhoid, abscess or fistula?

I've been feeling pretty good on the Humira. In fact, it got me through me wedding!

Only a big lump has appeared near my anus and I'm not sure it's a hemorrhoid. It's coming from the inside, it's not itchy and it's quite big....

That's why I'm asking if it might be an abscess or a fistual. Does anyone have any ideas?

I can't believe I'm posting a question about my anus on the Internet lol

Here sweetie, check out this link..the first set of pics is of hemmies, the pic below is perianal crohn's skin tags...either way, you should get your GI to take a look (most GP's don't have a clue about the difference between hemmies and perianal crohn's skin tags)....

about 15 years ago I was afraid I had an abscess.  My then GI said it was a thrombosed hemmoroid.   I should give it hot soaks in the bath and it would go away.  It did.  Several months ago I developed the same painful lump in the same place.  I'd been having some problems since my resection and after a painful digital exam my new GI said I had thickening of the rectal tissue and wanted to do an anoscopy and colonoscopy.  This was several months ago

On the report she referred to it as a palpable nodularity.  It went away but came back for a couple of days this week.  She couldn't say what it was and that it might be Crohn's related.  She referred me to another GI in Pittsburgh principley because she could only get up 25 cm where she hit a stenosis at the apparent   anastomosis.  I'm losing my confidence in her.

A fistula forms from an ulcer from a previous abscess...an abscess will hurt...you will see redness tenderness..even pus under the skin...you will know...for a fact if you have an infection...a hemmy..will hurt..bleed..itch...and appear as a bump...

If an abscess is deep you won't see the redness or any signs of it for that matter...you will only feel the awful pain.

Thank you for the link, but what I have doesn't look like any of those. The more I read, the more I think it's an abscess. It's dangerous to self-diagnose, I know.

It's not itchy, just very large and painful. I've had night sweats all this week and today it feels like I'm coming down with the flu. It's got to the point where it hurts to walk or sit. I've done the Anusol, Cortifoam and hot baths, nothing helps.

I've tried to get an appointment with my GI but the earliest opening is November 12th.

I really don't want to have to go to the emergency room and wait up to 30 hours. Yep, that's how long I waited last time.

Hello Minou,

If it is an abscess, and you are having these symptoms -- flu feeling, pain, night sweats -- I am really quite concerned for you! Abscesses can go septic and be life-threatening. No joke. I strongly suggest you call your GI's office (or their doctor on call) and ask them to get you in to see an experienced colo rectal surgeon ASAP. And I mean now. If they can't help now, please go to the ER!
