Sniper said...
This weekend I was working on my boat and needed some tools from the shop. I sweat a lot when working and take my glasses off or I cant see. On the way up the yard I came close to stepping on what I call, Old Mister No Neck...
What kind of snake was it?
I've had more than my share of snake encounters here in Taiwan. One story even relates to my Crohn's. I had a sudden urgent need to use the toilet, so I just sort of ran into the bathroom, dropped my pants and sat down. Then I noticed out the corner of my eye what seemed like a slight movement. Turned around to find a habu snake sitting on top of the toilet tank, coiled up in striking position with its fangs exposed. You've never seen someone get off the toilet so fast. I hopped down the hallway to my storage room to retrieve a machete and came back, with my pants still down around my knees. The snake was quickly dispatched.
Here in Taiwan, we've got a number of snakes that you're probably not familiar with. I mentioned the habu above, but that one isn't very deadly (though getting bit by one is surely no fun). Last week I killed a "hundred pacer." It takes its name from the fact that if it bites you, expect to walk no more than 100 paces before dropping dead.

I usually use an iron bar or machete to dispatch a snake, but the last one I killed by running it over with my car. Had to run it over five times before it finally stopped moving.
Never a dull moment.
