I think I read once that they play loud music in public restrooms in Japan - so that people going in there don't need to be embarassed about any noises they may make.

Wouldn't that be a great thing?

It is nice, we have that here in many public restrooms where I live (canada).

That would be good, it would save all the shuffling my feet, playing with the toilet roll dispenser and other concealing noises I make while in there lol.

Awkward yes. Silence NO. At least not when one of us is in there. :)

A friend in Japan told me that they have a button in some bathrooms that you push for flushing noise. The government was concerned over all the wasted water from unnecessary flushing they installed a noise button to serve the same purpose.

I travel to Mexico frequently. I love this one Carls Jr bathroom, because they blare the music in there and no one can hear all the noises my body always wants to make:) I wish all the bathrooms did this.

They also have built in sounds for various buttons on their toilets for bathrooms at home. I don't know how effective it is, but it might at least make the person feel better about what's going on in there :p

Sound proof bathrooms at home would be nice too. We have 3 bathrooms and I shuffle around to the one furthest from where everyone is at. Even if I get up in the middle of the night I walk all the way across the house to use the bathroom instead of using the one in my room where my husband is. We can't help it but it doesn't make it any less embarrasing

What I'd like to know is, when I'm the first and only person in a public washroom and I'm in my stall (I always pick the one at the far end beside the wall) and I'm in there doing my thing, why is it the next person that comes in HAS to go to the stall right next to me when there's sometimes 10 or more other stall they could choose???? why not at least go one stall away??? Why always the one right next to ME??? If any of you guys do that, I just want to let you know I find it completely ANNOYING, and I'd like you to stop doing it...thank you! rolleyes


I'd also like to take this opportunity to THANK who ever it was that invented those disposable seat covers and the toilet seat sanitizer cleaners (that you use to wipe the seat down before using), very smart ideas...and thanks to all the public places that have either of those options. smilewinkgrin

Pillpopper I thought I was the only one that always ran to the furthest bathroom??? I had no problems farting in front of my ex, but my husband thinks ladies should not do that in front of their husbands. Whats cute now is that he realizes the problems me holding my gas in causes, that he tells me its okay, I understand. But now I am so self concious I can't no matter how I try. Sigh, that's life I guess:)

PB4 I hate when people do that too, or just go in the bathroom to gossip or do their hair for 20 minutes, while I am dying to let go of a loud one. Sigh!!

Christ...as I've said before....don't sweat the small stuff!  Chances are, they're strangers in the bathroom and you'll never see them again for the rest of your life!!! And, I've got another news flash for you.....their @#$t stinks, too!!! Give yourselves a break.  Life can be difficult enough!!!

I wish I could adopt my husbands two philosophies....1) they're usually strangers in a public restroom so why worry if you never see them again & 2) if you can't do it in the bathroom, where can you? Unfortunately, I am just still a little self conscious
pb4....I think the stall next to you is a universal issue just like getting in the wrong line at the bank. I've decided it is a cosmic thing. Hopefully that same person gets stuck next to the annoying person on the bus or in the longest line at the bank....oh wait that's always me too :-)
Nanners & pillpopper....thanks for making me appreciate my husband more! He gets every whiff and sound and is OK with it (of course I get repaid often) I never go to the far bathroom if it is just him!

I always pop my I -pod ear plugs in and listen to music in the can. Works great, I cant hear any of the noise I make...

Well, well, well. I think another basic difference between men and women is showing up here. We men are not likely to get embarrassed about the noises we make, we are more likely to start a spontaneous competition. Or am I just being annoying when I do?

LOL, no it's not annoying if you're in a competition about it, but I'm sure glad as a female that I don't have to share a public washroom with you LOL! I just get annoyed with ladies that have to pick the stall right next to mine when they have plenty of other empty ones to choose from is all.

I don't find farting competitions annoying at all, I can beat my hubby hands down and with my eyes closes LOL!
