Stricture?

After 34 years of ibd I have only begun to reach out to others in the last 3 or 4 months.  So that is why I ask so many questions.  My apologies.

Why do I get such pain if I eat a lot of fiber like a bowl of beans?  I was thinking that I may have a slight constriction (is that a stricture) or narrowing in my intestine that the load of beans can't pass.  I visualize like a baked bean  hard packed snowball.  Then as my intestine gets distressed the semi-blockage becomes soft like D and can pass.  When I told the doctors about this feeling of mine they said no.  They said I would feel worse symptoms and throw-up etc.  I think if it is just a narrowing that I could be correct? 

I wish I could get that swallow the camera test but I am terrified I will choke on that camera.  I never swallowed anything that big.  I would like my small bowel looked at though.  Advice?

Maybe you should have a small bowel follow through instead of the camera - ask your Gastro if they can arrange one.
You could have some narrowing, although baked beans are very fibrous (?sp), so could be that too.
I have had stricturing and the pain is like child birth - waves of bowel contractions and excrutiating pain, so it doesnt sound like that yet.

I have a very similar situation. There is a stricture in my colon, found aftere last colonoscopy. I am in terrible pain if I eat fiber, therefore my diet is limited with what I eat. Most often I puree the food, and still may have some pain. There is a doctor at New York Presbyterian/ Weill Cornell hospital  in New York who has developed some new ways to handle strictures, and to avoid colon resection. His name is Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, I looked him up on the internet, after reading about his study and the surgeries he performs there may be a ray of hope for all of us who battles this dreadful disease.

Hi, I had two strictures in the small bowel i would get really bad cramping after eating anything and usually end up throwing up also the area where the strictures were was firm to touch and would be so noisy I found out i had strictures from an MRI scan being done. Bev x

Thank you for the encouragement. I will see my GI on Jan 15th and see what options they give me. If I have a narrowing I think it will be a REALATIVELY minor one.
