Hi,
My boyfriend of 3 years has been dealing with Crohn's Disease since he was 18. He is now 25 and can't seem to get his flare-ups under control. He has been in and out of the hospital for the past year and has been prescribed many different medications. Pentaza, Prednizone, a number of different antibiotics, and Imuran, just to name a few. He just spent the weekend in the hospital for 4 days for a bowel obstruction (while he was on the meds described above). He had the NG tube, IV, catscans, x-rays, and the whole 9 yards. Just when he started feeling better, they let released him from the hospital and he started having the same symptoms again 5 days later.
I've been trying to educate myself more about the disease and it seems like most people with Crohn's have issues with diarrhea and frequent trips to the bathroom. He has the opposite problem. He becomes extremely constipated and has terrible pain in his stomach. His stomach also makes the loudest gurgling noises that I've ever heard! Along with the constipation he is always very sick and vomits every half an hour until he is so sick that nothing is left. We try to keep an eye on his diet to find what foods may trigger a flare up but who knows, it seems to be completely random. He's been really sick lately and can't seem to get better no matter how many steroids and antibiotics he takes. Has anyone had these symptoms? Does anyone have advice for us?
His doctor recently mentioned Remicade as an option, but the side effects seem quite scary as well. Any advice will surely help. Thanks in advance.
