Had a consultation with the surgeon on Friday. Apparently I have a pretty nice obstruction from all the scar tissue in my small intestine. That would explain my inability to eat non-liquids for the last 3 weeks. It's going to suck spending Christmas in the hospital but oh well. I'm actually excited to get it over with so I can eat again.

Anyone have any words of wisdom, stories, etc?

I hope your surgery goes very smoothly and you are up and running around very soon! I haven;t had this surgery, but I hear they get you up walking very quickly afterwards and that it is all worth it in the end!

Take care, and let us know how it goes. Take your Christmas stocking with you and hang it up in your room.

Hi Pimfram. I hope all goes well tomorrow. Remember to bring your own pillow. Ear plugs are good too. Hospitals (insurance companies actually) like to get you in and out - so maybe you'll even be home by Christmas. I hope you get the best gift of all for Christmas - good health. SB

Thanks for the kind words. Surgery was at 4pm and I was walking by 10am today. Honestly, it's not as bad as I imagined, but I do have a high pain tolerance. The hydromorphone does a nice job of taking the edge off the pain, just hurts when I get up out of bed. I'm hoping to get out of here before too much longer, nurses say I'm doing extremely well.

Pimfram, I just wanted to offer my support, and I wish you the best in getting better!! Keep us updated on how the results of the surgery, please. I know any abdominal surgery is a pain as far as getting up and down goes, but it doesn't take too long before you're up and about again.

Do you know what your plans are going from here?

They said if I tolerate full liquids well, I'll rapidly move on to real food and could be out as soon as Christmas day. I kind of doubt I'd be out that quickly but I sure wouldn't mind being able to get together with the family for Christmas, especially since prime rib is what's going to be served.

Did you have your surgery done by laproscopy? I am guessing so, since your recovery is going so well and fast. Here's to a long remission for you! Be sure you get back on maintainence meds, you don't want to have a repeat of Crohns or another surgery anytime soon.

It was an open surgery, but the incision isn't very long, 4-6 inches in length.

Wow I am impressed then. I have had two open resections (although I did get an infection in the incision both times) and I wasn't feeling as well as you describe for a few weeks afterwards. I happen to have a strong pain tolerance myself, but not as good as you I guess:) Good for you!

Hey pimfram, I just wanted to let you know I'm so glad you are doing so well after your surgery. It seems like an amazing thing that you were up walking so soon! I hope you continue on that route and are out by Christmas. I may be on the same boat soon and I'm so scared, it's good to hear a positive response to the surgery. Happy holidays to you and yours and here's to a much brighter 2010!!

Thanks Nanners and Dana. I do attribute a little of my success to the Dilaudid, but I'm not the type of person who lets anything beat me, especially CD.

Oh yeah Dialaudid and I were great friends after my resections:) Then went home on Percosets.

Pimfram glad everything went ok for you! I hope you get home for Christmas, alwasy better to heal at home than in the hospital, especially on a special holiday! Take care!

Thanks a lot, guys and girls. Only setback so far is that it isn't much fun to take percocet on an empty stomach. I wish the nurse would have said something before I took it.

Ooh! You got that right. Even Dilaudid did that to me on an empty stomach. Congrats on a great result and recovery. Wishing you home for christmas.

Dilaudid made me really doped up, but it worked very well. Perc doesn't seem to help nearly as much, will probably as for Dilaudid so I can sleep tonight. Abs hurt on either side, but my incision hardly hurts anymore.
