Sinus Infection & antibiotics

Anybody have a sinus infection and have to take antibiotics?  If so, which one work best for you without tearing your gut up?  I have a sinus infection right now and know I need to get on some antibiotics, just don't know what works for our sensitive guts.  Like to go in with some suggestions.  Thanks~!

Well, I can tell you what not to take. The amoxicillin that was prescribed for my sinus infection started the whole storm that lead to my diagnosis. Within 2 days of starting it, I had D, and it went downhill from there. So hopefully they don't put you on that! However, I'm sure everyone is different, and I felt like they prescribed me a very high dosage, so maybe it would work better for you.

I think the netti pot it a good idea too. I wish I would have just stuck with that instead of going on the antibiotics, but I couldn't get past the feeling of water going up my nose. I'll give it a shot next time though to avoid antibiotics.

Nanners I sugger from chronic sinusitis. My ENT doc has been after me for a few years to have the surgery, but all the reports I have had were that it has limited success rates. When I flare into a full-blown infection he uses levaquin, which is one of the quinolone antibiotics. It does have some side effects -- there have been reports of tendon ruptures in the legs, not sure why, but I have always done well with it. He also suggests taking probiotics to maintain the gut flora during the course of treatment, but that is a good idea with any antibiotic. A second line AB for sinusitis is probably Cipro.

Yeah I am doing the sinus irrigation too. Doc put me on Keflex which I have taken in the past with no problems, hope it stays the same way this time. My nose is so plugged up I can barely breathe. Uggghhhh..............

Was gonna say 'neti pot' but someone above beat me to it. Takes some getting used to but I'm telling you, well worth it.
Seems like there are lots of options out there, if folks are looking for 'other' things to try. Alternative treatments, natural remedies, etc.
Also be aware that there have been advances in the treatment of CHRONIC sinusitis. It used to be that surgery was the only answer but balloon sinuplasty and others have added to the list of viable options.
Really though, everyone needs to find the solution that fits them best. Every condition, every person is different. Kinda obvious, but still.

I will second (or third?) the neti pot suggestion.
Also, from what I understand the use of balloon sinuplasty is somewhat limited. Great for when you simply need the nasal passages opened up but not as simple as one-to-one alternative for sinus surgery.
