I was wondering if anyone has developed Acid Reflux from CD and if so what they are using to treat it.  I am currently on a double dose of Prilosec but it is getting really expensive.  Since Previcid just came out over the counter I don't know if there is any perscription drugs anymore which would cost me less.

I suffer from the same thing.....not sure if crohn's is to blame or not. I take 40 mg of protonix in the morning and 150mg of over the counter zantac per my GI's instructions. It seems to be working for now. Good luck!

Many folks with Crohns also suffer with Acid Reflux/GERD myself included. I have been on 60 mg of Prilosec for a few years now. Luckily my insurance covers it at a low cost for me. One thing to remember is not all PPI's work the same for all. For example Nexium or Prevacid didn't help me at all, but Protonix or Prilosec work great for me. Hope that helps.

I use to take 40mg Protonix and I think it cost about $1 a pill, but my GI switched because he thought I may have Bacteria overgrowth. I'm now on Pepcid complete which does not work as good as Protonix.

When the Prilosec wasn't working well, my GI switched me to Pepcid but that didn't help so we doubled the dose of Prilosec.  It helps, but it is costly.  My insurance won't cover over the counter or any perscription that has something similar over the counter.  If I was to switch to a perscription which is much cheaper, I would need it to be something that isn't OTC.

I have never heard of Protonix.  Is that the drug name or the brand name?

Protonix is the brand name. For me at least, the Protonix worked but didn't last as long for me as the Prilosec has. In other words I took Protonix about 9 mos then it petered out on me. The Prilosec I have been on for years and its continued to work well for me. Hope that helps.

I on on two Acephex a day, it is covered under my insurance thank goodness. Get your dr to rx something that is covered by your insurance. My dr says Nexium tends to cause diarhea in most of his patients.

I only get heartburn on occasion, but when I get it, it's pretty bad. I have tried Pepcid but it only helps a little. Does anyone have any suggestions to manage occasional heartburn? I was up half the night very uncomfortable last night. I tried Chamomile tea, and it didn't help, so I just sat up on the couch for several hours until it passed.

I use protonix which has seemed to work well so far. I do seem to get a little heartburn now in the evenings and I drink a cup of peppermint tea and that seems to work.

Prevacid works good for me so far. The generic form just came out and my pharmacy fills it with the same as the non-generic. The pharmacist said it is the same manufacturer making the generic so it is the same as non-generic (for now at least).
