Is it Normal to be on flagyl 500mg Twice daily for more than 14 days?

What was the longest duration you have experienced?

I was on it after my liver surgery and I think I was on for more than 2 weeks, but to be honest I can't remember exactly how long it was.

I don't remember the dosage but I was on it for three months while waiting to start Humira...gotta say it really helped me! And before starting taking metronidazole I was on cyprofloxacine for a month...waiting for Humira happened at the same time I had to have my wisdom teeth removed which was posponed for various reasons so that's why I took it for so long...

I'm on Flagyl right now at the same dosage you mentioned and I've going to be on it for around 6 weeks.  I've had (2) two week rounds early in the year after my surgery.  So, yes, I think it's normal to be on it for longer than two weeks.  I despise being on it!  It makes me super nauseous.

I take the same dosage you wrote and I will have to take it for a month. I start Cimzia after that.

I was on it for almost 5 months. It saved my life after my first abscess. The side effects are tough to take but it is one of the best antibiotics for abscesses. I was highly emotional and anxious, and it helped knowing it was from the drug (and I wasn't going crazy!). Hang in there!

I've been going through a great deal of pain lately, and found out by a chance UTI that Cipro helped me. I saw my GI after (a week ago) and she's prescribe me 500mg of Cipro twice a day and 500 mg of Flagyl 3 times a day for 3 months. I had a CT enterography on Tuesday to see if I have an abscess, but either way, it's gotten rid of my pain entirely. The only side effect I've had is diarrhea so far (I was constipated prior to starting the antibiotics) and I seem moodier/more anxious than usual. So far, the side effects have been tolerable for me, because without it, the pain was making it impossible for me to function. Good luck!

I have taken 500 mgs before for a few weeks, it gave me diarrhea and an awful taste in my mouth. Even at 250 mg twice a day, it gives me diarrhea. Cipro was good on my stomach but I am allergic to it.

I was on that much for 10 months in 1998. I don't know if that is a long time. I had the metallic taste in my mouth but no other problems.

I was on it for 10-12 months while I had a re-occurring abscess which was waiting for surgery. I also had the nausea, loss of appetite and anxiety. It did help me though. Helped stop the abscess from growing further. When I suddenly stopped it, the abscess got black and doubled in size. The side-effects are tough but it definitely beats the other option!
