"allergic" to school

I have been back in school now for two weeks and I've had three really bad stomach aches. I have been out of school for about eight months because I was getting so sick. In and out of the hospital having 9 surgeries in six months. I have been feeling really good for the past four months or so, to the point that I could seriously forget that I had crohns. I had a job, granted it was only working in a retail store but I was putting in 30-40 hours a week. Now I go back to class where I am not working and only taking classes and studying and all of a sudden I am starting to have stomach aches again. What is wrong with me that whenever I am in school I get sick. I like my classes, granted I could do without all the studying, but still. Has anyone ever had a similar problem? I am seriously wondering if quitting school and just do some entry level job for the rest of my life would be better for my health!

I always flare at the beginning of the semester, I think from all of the stress. I take an antidepressant and as needed anxiety meds. Usually by mid-semester I am feeling better and by the end I feel great. One of my docs said he doesn't think that stress contributes to flares but I think he is full of it. Many people do and we know that stress negatively affects the body. Talk to your GI about your concerns and maybe make an appointment to start some anxiety meds if that will help you. Don't drop out of school because of it!!! You can do it! Just hang in there. **hugs**

I suspect it's more likely you would have flared anyway whether you returned to school or not. Just the nature of the disease that it comes and goes, and I certainly wouldn't blame its return on an academic program that you are enjoying. Get whenever medical follow-up you need to control the current flare and don't let it discourage you from doing the things you want to do in life.
