Starting Methotrexate...Scared

Hi everyone.  I've had crohn's disease for about 8 years now and i've run out of meds to take for it.  I was taking cimzia and I stopped responding to the treatment.  I've been on everything except methotrexate.  Now I have an appointment on thursday with my gi doc to inject me with the metho.  This will be my first.  I'm scared.  I'm 28 years old and I've had surgery already with a temp ileostomy which was reversed in Oct of '08.  I don't want to go through that again. Can anyone tell me what to expect as far as side effects and what I should worry about and if it has helped anyone here.  Thank you in advance for all your advice and information.  cry

I have been on Methotrexate weekly injections since Sept 08 with no side effects. Take folic acid and get bloodwork done regularly.

If you have been on all the others don't know why this would be any scarier except they say you shouldn't be on it if you are wanting  to get pregnant?

Metho injections work good for me. Don't be afraid of it. There are a lot folks on this medication. Give it time to kick in. The only side effects that i got was fatigue for about 24 hrs after the injection but now that has seem to have stopped. Good luck.

Yes, MTX might be my other resort as well. After being on remicade, humira, cimzia and all other traditionals...
I think MTX is my next med.

Cool thing is, even though i am very skeptical.. i was told remicade is higher on the Scary chart PLUS it has helped A LOT of people that failed all 3 like you and I both.

One other thing, EVERY drug can bring Reactions.. is MTX one of those common or less common.?

I've been on Metho now for around 6 months. I've had no side effects.  I have had slight hair loss but I can't pin it on the Metho itself.

I was on methotrexate for about a yr and it was bad for me.  I had every side effect affiliated with this medication.  I lost wuiteoa bit of hair, was nauseas all the time  and it didn't put me in remission.  i have been on Remicade and have been in remission for a while now.
