sudden crohn's change - help!

Had Crohn's since 1993 with one re-section. Only on Questran to control diarrhea. Colonoscopy last year showed significant narrowing at the re-section spot. Suddenly with no warning, I am constipated, tired, pain in lower back and right quadrant, and have no urge to go even though I feel I should. Blood work doesn't indicate any new inflammation. Pain is slowing me down. Tried to stop the Questran but without it diarrhea returns. Tramadol has been prescribed for pain and I'm afraid to try it. I will see a physician next week but wanted any thoughts first on what might be happening. Trying to avoid any more surgeries or an emergency! Oddly, I had tried a weight watcher diet a week before this started and though maybe an increase in fiber had kicked this off (doctor says no).

First off you really need to get back onto meds. Sounds like you have developed a stricture at the reconnection site. Exact samething happened to me after my first resection and not taking meds afterwards. Try to stay with a low residue diet, that helps me not to having obstruction like symptoms. As for the Tramadol there are folks here who have had success with it. Doesn't agree with me, too hard on my stomach, but I have a sissy stomach too:) Tramadol is not supposed to make you drowsy like other pain meds and is less addicting. But as I said I can't take it as it upsets my gut. I take 1/2 tab of percoset 3 x's a day and it works well for me. Good luck!

Hi there, I am sorry to hear about these new symptoms, I hope that you are able to figure out what the cause is.  As for Tramadol, I can vouch for that one.  It has never bothered my tummy and helps with pain.  I take it regularly.  It is a mild pain reliever for me, but I know that everyone is different so take it slow.

What would you suggest for a low residue diet? I never know what to eat? I literally have never been on meds for 16 years after the re-section - except for the Questran. I can thank a not so great doctor for that. I have a good specialist now but I don't really understand what a stricture is. Is that scar tissue? I feel pretty crampy and tired today. I know something isn't right. Also, why are we not supposed to take Ibuprophen? It takes away my pain pretty quickly.
