Had a really bad day...think I had an obstruction

Last night, I woke up at around 2-2:30 in the morning feeling really nauseous. I threw up a bunch of times, tried to drink some water, couldn't even keep that down... Basically from 2 this morning until noon, I was throwing up every 5-10 mins, couldn't pass gas but had quite a bit of completely liquid D. I was alternating from sweating to freezing, felt really weak, my heart was racing. Pain wise, it was pretty bad, I had waves of cramps in my lower abdomen, then pressure-like feeling in my LRQ that hurt a lot when I coughed. Another weird thing that I noticed, not sure if anyone has ever had this happen, but higher up (around my belly button), it felt like my stomach muscles were twitching... only lasted about 5 minutes or so but it's something I've definitely never felt! I really should have gone to the hospital, I didn't want to though because I couldn't even stop throwing up to get out my door. My parents weren't very happy that I didn't go, and I just spoke with my new GIs nurse. She told me to come straight to the ER if it happens again. Definitely not a fun day, my head is killing me now and my stomach muscles feel like they're pulled.

Valerie with your history I do not think it is wise to stay at home. You sound as if you had a least a partial obstruction. Please next time grab a trash can and take yourself to the ER. You could do some serious damage to yourself if an obstruction is not taking seriously.

Whenever I have had an obstruction my symptoms have been similar but the stomach pain came in waves much like labor pains i.e. coming in waves every few minutes or so. Once the vomiting starts that means things are backing up on you. I agree with your folks you should not wait. Be on the watch in case it comes back, and this time PLEASE take yourself to the ER. Well, After having a Cat scan,small bowel x-ray, and an EGD my doctor found 3 peptic ulcers and believes this is causing my problems. The only symptoms i had to ulcers, was the belching,bloating,vomiting, and not very much pain at all.Has anyone else run across this?

total blockage, you vomit bile, and you cn't evan go to the bathroom evan d. and the pain is unbearable, extreemly dangerous, emergency type of situation. requires ng tube for sure.

Hey, sorry for taking a while to write back, I've had a really hectic week! I saw my doctor today, and I thought I'd let you guys know how it went. He said that I definitely had a partial blockage and wasn't very happy that I didn't come in, because he said that they would have done my resection the same day. I'm definitely going in next time it happens, lesson learned. I have an ultrasound tomorrow afternoon and he told me to e-mail him Friday so that he can get my results right away because he's going to try to use them to push my surgery up, because he said that my situation is "very delicate" right now. I've been doing fine since about Friday or so, the soreness/tenderness from my whole ordeal last week lingered for about a day and a half, but now I'm back to normal again. Sick of all these appointments though, I'm going back to see the doctor again in a week, he told me he's keeping me on a very short leash. LOL.

All that being said though, I'm actually glad that I didn't go in last week. Sounds dumb but it happened the day before my boyfriend's birthday, and I really didn't want to be in the hospital for his birthday. It was one of the factors that kept me at home, and knowing that I definitely would've still been there the next day makes me sort of relieved. At least now I will know to recognize 100% what an obstruction is like for me!

It isn't scheduled, but the surgeon told me the Friday before this happened that it would be in about 2 months. I'm not sure what they can do, I live in Canada and I'm seeing one of the best colorectal surgeons around here because my doctor wanted the surgeon who would be most likely to do it only through my belly button (which I thank him for, lol). Unfortunately, this guy has a lot of cancer patients too, so Crohn's is lower on his list of priorities. My doctor just said today that my situation is "very delicate" and he's going to use my ultrasound results from today along with my other test results to get me in as soon as possible, because he doesn't want me to wait 2 months. Who knows how much he can do to get me ahead in line, but he made it sound like I really need it sooner than 2 months. I'll let you guys know what happens tomorrow at my ultrasound, and what my doctor says on Friday (hopefully he's fast with e-mails, he only gave it to me today).

Another update - I saw my GI today, had my ultrasound last week. They aren't sure if it's just because the ultrasound didn't pick it up, but it didn't show any abscesses. My doctor thinks that the Cipro/Flagyl may have done the trick and I may be able to avoid surgery! I'm super excited. However, by the looks of things, they're thinking that I also have Crohn's in my jejeunum (or however you spell it haha) and possibly my stomach as well. I've got an endoscopy on Monday and I'm doing a pill cam after that. After all that, I think I'm going to need another CT scan. Depending on what it shows, I may not need my surgery. I don't want to get too excited yet, because I had an ultrasound about 2 weeks before my CT enterography and it didn't show any abscesses or anything either, and I highly doubt that it just randomly appeared during those 2 weeks. Hoping for the best though!

That would be so great if you didn't have surgery, but I understand...you can't get your hopes up too much...gotta wait till you have all the pieces of the puzzle!
