Hi everyone.  I just recently joined the forum but I have viewed these forums for years.  I am 26 and just recently found out I was pregnant.  I am about to move from Louisville, KY to Columbus, OH for my husband's work.  I hate to leave my doctor.  I've been with my doctor since I diagnosed with Chron's at 18.  Unfortunately he cannot refer me to a doctor in Columbus.  I was wondering if anyone in the Columbus area knows of a really good GI doctor to refer me to.  Thanks.

Hi Lori! Congrats on your pregnancy and welcome! I don't know of any docs in Columbus, but hopefully someone here might. Have you considered calling a physician's referral line in that area? I know how hard it can be. I have moved a few times too. I hope you find a good doc in your new area soon!

If you are happy with your present doctor in Kentucky, you may decide it is worth the drive to continue with her/him. I have yet to find an adequate GI doctor in Columbus that really knows about Crohn's and is committed to caring for their patients properly. This is not only my opinion but the opinion of other doctors and nurses in the area that I have talked with who tend to travel elsewhere for GI doctors after becoming very frustrated with the care here. The situation in Columbus is a couple of large groups (up to 25) of GI doctors that rotate and are almost impossible to get in touch with.

I am assuming you will choose an OB/GYN doctor to handle your pregnancy and delivery. If so, I would ask him for a recommendation for a good GI. Doctors usually prefer to refer patients outside their specialty to colleagues they trust and respect, and the OB/GYN may have had previous pregnant women who also had GI issues, so he/she may have someone he/she is comfortable working with to coordinate treatment and medications.

I wish I had a good word for you on recommending a GI doc in Columbus, Ohio but I have seen many and they all had a different idea which leaves the patient wondering what the heck they should do. I leave for the Mayo Clinic in MN one week from tonight.

I agree with mastersmom - thinking about keeping your Dr that you are comfortable with and make the trip.

I will say to stay clear from Dr. B. Hennessey (out of Riverside Methodist and Dublin Methodist Hospitals).

I am fairly new to this site but will share with you that there are many, many people willing to listen, support and help you in any way that they can.

I was diagnosed in Columbus a few years ago, but unfortunately the center I went to has since closed and the doctor's have dispersed--I think some have even moved out of the city. I really wish I could help you out!
