tapering down on pred and the big D is back...next steps?

If you are reluctant to go down to 5 mg tomorrow, then by all means call your GI. You could have eaten something that caused the diarrhea and you will return to your normal in the AM. Or it could be a sign that you are getting more inflammation. You might be one of the individuals that has become steroid dependent. People that are steroid dependent have a return of symptoms when they get down to 10-20 mg of prednisone. This might not be you, but it does happen.

If I were in your shoes, I would see how my guts were in the morning and make a decision based on how I was doing. If you are still having diarrhea, then you probably should call the GI and seek her guidance.

you may be one of those unfortunate people like me that flares the minute i get down to a lower dose of pred. On high doses of pred the D stops and i begin to feel better i have been on 200 mg immuran for over a year now and as soon as i lower to 20 mg pred the D is back i can't go below and it takes 50mg pred to keep me in remission. I am off pred now and having D constantly and blood and mucous and just started remicade and hoping this works cause ive been on pred for almost 2 years off and on and my body can't take the steroids anymore i have full blown diabetes now and have to inject insulin 4 times a day ( on pred was hospiatalized my glucose level went to 33 which im in canada it should be 4-6)

Hopefully it was just a fluke but if it continues don't leave it for long stay on top of it. I hope you can get of the prednisone though its like a double edged sword!!!!
