I am a mom with crohns and just found out today that son might have crohns

The absolute worst news I could hear. I know what I go through with this dang disease and I don't want him to go through it. I always hoped and prayed that none of my kids would get it. I haven't even told him yet. I thought I might wait until the next time that we go to his Dr. because he would have the results of the blood work and the biopsies. As my son has seen, it isn't an easy disease to deal with. He has seen me in pain and seen me go to the hospital. He has even seen me go through the surgery. Now I may have to watch him go through all this stuff. I just don't know how I'm going to do it. I just really hate crohns disease. Please say a pray for my son.

I will surely Pray for your son, I would not wish this on anyone, least our kids, or grandbabies, How old is your son?

Tink, My son is 14 yrs. old but has been having problems for about 1 year. I was 13 when I started to have problems.

I definitely hope and pray that your son has been spared IBD. However, if it does happen, he has you - a mom who knows what this disease is, and can help him keep a positive attitude, and can help him figure this out. He knows a little about what this disease is, and you can help him cope. Of course, the best would be for him to not have to deal with it at all, and I hope this will be the case. But if it isn't, I'm glad he has you to help him through it. But either way, have faith that he will lead a happy and productive life, because you are here to guide and help him.

Wow...I totally share your fear.  I have a 7 year old who has had "tummy" problems for over a year.  Nothing close to Crohn's, but still, not exactly normal I think.  I have not had her tested because she is still growing and doesn't exhibit any other problems.  But I always have that nagging fear in my soul that she, out of the two kids, might develope Crohn's.  It is a scary ride, as a parent.  Stay in the fight, as I know you will.  He has you, and thank goodness you know about this disease.

I am so sorry to hear your little one has Crohns too. In one hand he is lucky that he has you though, so that he can come to you and ask whatever questions he has. I will definetly keep you BOTH in my prayers. Hugs!

Oh there is a site also for teens with crohns disease too, he might want to check that out. Good luck!

I do hope your son does not have crohns too. One in the family is too much! My 13 year old daughter was diagnosed at 11 with crohns. Now, when ever her 3 older brothers have a stomach ache or D etc., I can't help but worry that they too might get crohns . I think I will worry for the rest of their lives.  There is nothing worst than having your child suffer and not be able to help them. I'll pray for us all as I pray everyday that a cure will come along soon. Diana

Sorry to hear your son has Crohn's. It is one of the worst things ever when you pass down a disease to your kids. My oldest daughter has been sick off and on with D and low grade fevers over the last few months. Yesterday she vomitted and had violent D  most of the day. She has also had trouble swallowing at times. This is exactly had I started this stupid disease, at just the same age. She just broke up with a boyfriend after a long 3 year relationship and I know she is stressed so I am hoping that this is causing these symptom.  I already gave her polycycstic kidney disease so it breaks my heart to think she also has Crohns. 

Good luck with your son and I hope all goes well. I am sure you have learned a lot of tricks of the trade over the years you can share with him. Maybe he will have a much easier time than you did.

I will also pray that your son won't have CD.
I hear you, that's the worst possible thing that can happen, but you must be strong and optimistic and encouraging for your son no matter what.

what does the naturopath have you on? what is his/her plan? my daughter was diagnosed 4/10 with crohn's. I have her on the Blood type/geno diet with vitamins, probiotics, homeopathic remedies, etc. She is also on 25 mg Prednisone and tapering off. very interested in alternative medicine. it has always been a good alternative for my family so always interested.

My Naturopath has me on digestive enzymes, vitamin D, thyroid support (for mild Hashimoto's), adrenal support, human-specific probiotics, UltraInflamax.....to name the main things.  I also take Cod Liver Oil.  I have been doing an IV treatment as well.  This treatment puts the vitamins and minerals, as well as natural anti-inflammatories, directly into my blood stream.  I HAVE felt an increase in energy since starting the plan of the Naturopath.  Our plan right now is to continue this another 2 months, then reevaluate with tests to see how things are progressing.  I also do SCD, have since I was diagnosed, and follow that with utmost strictness, as far as I can tell.
