ER trip last night

So I had a high fever, and haven't passed any solids in 4 days, and my CD hurts so bad that i passed out a few times, and it feels like i have a basketball-sized mass shoved up under my rib-cage. Any guesses? anyone?

Small-bowel blockage was my guess, so i went to the ER, where they did a CT. The Doc came back and said "You're full of s&@#!". I was severely constipated, no small-bowel blockage. So now i'm at home with my favorite Mag-Cit cocktail waiting for things to pass.

A few questions: How can I tell if it really is a bowel obstruction? I think I did the right thing by going to the ER, and I'm thankful it was not serious, I just want to know what red flags I should look for.

Also, any better way to manage CD pain other than darvocet, which stops me up?

I have to use stool softners nightly in order to keep things softer and easier to pass. If I didn't I would be in a world of hurt. I have been using them for years, before my resections and after. Hope that helps some. Good luck!

I just had the same thing happen to me very early Wednesday morning!
The doctor said it was a possible partial obstruction, and I should try to drink MOM, but be sure to follow up with my family doctor within two days to make sure it cleared on its own.
But man, that hurt like heck. I hope you're feeling better today.

Very light exercise will probably help you with your pain management (if you don't already). Think yoga or water aerobics.
I know it's really hard to think about exercise when you feel like crap, but it's something to consider.

You know, it is possible that you were partially obstructed, but it didn't show on the CT. No test is 100%. I've had that happen where my symptoms mimicked prior symptoms of an obstruction, but tests don't show it. My GI usually treats me based on symptoms, and usually things "pass" within a few days.

Darvocet doesn't stop me up, but other pain meds do. For me codeine is the worst :( Can you ask your doc to prescribe something else for pain? Maybe another type of pain med won't slow things down.

When in doubt - go to the ER - obstructions are nothing to mess around with girls and boys - I know from experience.
