Does anyone else get edema?

I have had Crohn's colitis for 3 years now and every month or so I get edema in my feet i.e. very swollen feet. This never happened to me before I was diagnosed with Crohn's and I wondered if it happens to anyone else. It was really bad when I was on prednisone, but I stopped taking prednisone about 2.5 years ago. Any feedback or stories would be really helpful. I wore uncomfortable shoes yesterday and now my left foot is so swollen and painful that I can hardly walk. Thank you in advance!

Hi LME,

I get really bad swelling in my hands and fingers. Have you been tested for RA? I saw my family dr last week for some cold problems and I told him about how bad the swelling has been in my hands and he decided to test me for RA. Since it is also a auto-immune disease like Crohns sometimes they can go hand in hand. So I am waiting to hear back from that blood work. In the meantime, when they swell the hurt- and hurt bad! I take tylenol and sometimes have to take Norco for them. Not much help... but wanted you to know you were not alone.

Thanks so much. That is helpful. I haven't been tested for RA, but I'll definitely ask my doctor about it.

My ankles and feet swell. Like you, this disease is fairly new to me and I never had swelling before. There is maybe one week out of every month that they don't swell. Strange. I don't experience any pain with the swelling but it tingles like crazy. When I get home from work I have shoe imprints in my feet that stick around until I can prop my legs up for awhile ~ then there is some improvement.

Not sure what it's all about but I'm right there with ya!!

Ok someting new to talk about! Yah hoo! I don't have RA. Once in awhile at night my feet feel hot not warm, hot. When I look at them they're red or even kinda purplish. Strange thing is my feet pulses are equal so it's not lack of blood. I'm not diabetic either. Happens about once a month only at night. I do suffer from crohns arthritis, even with Remicade it can be bad, but nothing like it was before remicade. I somehow think these 2 conditions are somehow related. I've never asked the Dr. about it cause it happens so rarely. Edema? I'm not sure but the next time I'll check skin tension and compare sizes to see.

I get the swelling in my hands alot. This morning they were really swollen and when I was washing my hands the back of them were SOOO tender. It takes awhile after I have woken up for them to go down. Ouchy!
