Bowel Resection, Out of the hospital now but still vomiting and pain.

I had my bowel resection last tuesday and i have been home sense friday. I have had 2 vomiting fits with very bad stomach pain, has anyone else experienced this.

My surgeon told me that if i have a fever over 101 or stop having BM's to go to the emergency.

I feel fine most of the time but i just worry that this is not normal.

Could it be your pain meds? I had a reaction to my meds and ended up vomitting for a few days. I was miserable. Are you still passing gas and having bm's?

I agree with Irishmom, could be the pain meds, they made me vomit too.
Can yoiu call your Surgeon and ask what he thinks?

This happened to me after my resection.  Are you eating yet?  When I got home I think I was too ambitious with food (my boyfriend was trying to feed me up too fast) - I ate a massive bowl of soup and later that evening was sick as a dog.  I was really worried about it but all it was was that my bowel couldn't cope with that amount of food - in hospital I was literally having a spoonful of soup or jelly and that was it.

It could be the pain meds or like Caz81 said that maybe you are eating to fast. I would eat very small portions but eat several times a day. If it keeps up I would call your doctor.

Ended up I had a pocket of liquid in my lower pelvis from the surgury. It was drained and a week later I started to heal. 1 year of remission and now flaring again.....Thought I was done iwth this. Silly me.

Get yourself back on maintenance meds, very important. I had a GI (Now fired) that told me after my first resection that I no longer needed my Asacol, so I stopped it. I ended up needing another resecton 3 years later, due to another obstruction. Please stay on your meds, as we have a chronic and incurable bowel disease and it must be treated at all times. Hugs!

how come they've let you home if you have pain and vomiting?

I was in the hospital for three wks, after my resection. Everytime I tried to eat or even to much liquid I vomitted. They said I had a paralytical block. Nothing there just some parts not moving things through. So I was npo, for quite awhile till things started working. Once everything worked no problems eating at all.

Escalador- this was a post from a year ago when I had my resection. I was feeling better, passed gas, was tolerating liquids and went home. I felt ok for a few days and then the vomiting and pain came. I went back to the hospital and they found the pouch of liquid. The stuck a long needle through my back and drained the liquid. It all turned out ok. I have been super healthy with not a single problem till now- a year later. I tried to tell myself I was cured and this was all going to go away. Now it's time to put my big girl panties on and get back on maintanence meds.

I was being sick after a little after my resection and they wouldn't let me out until I was eating and drinking without vomiting?? Maybe you are eating too much to start with, I know I had very small amounts of food to start with, then gradually built up how much I had, but I ate a lot of soft foods to start as well so as not to aggravate the intestines. I would suggest if you carry on vomiting to phone the ward or your surgeon/specialist and see what they have to say but as suggested it might the pain meds, it could also be something to do with the anaesthetic still being in your system as well, but rather safe than sorry and get it checked out.
