Sofee,
You need more than acidophilus. It needs to be a combination of probiotics. Google probiotics and "probiotics for Crohn's" (even check out the Flora Jen site) and you'll see what I mean. You might also be lactose intolerant now since your intestines have been damaged, so the yogurt could be causing or exacerbating your problems. I took Digestive Advantage (the lactose intolerance version) for a long time and it helped immensely. You only have to take one a day, not something with every meal.
Believe me I had the same conditions you're talking about
. A sip of water would send me into the bathroom. I couldn't even get to the stores, a mile away, on bad days without looking for a bathroom at least 2 times. And then I would have attacks while in the supermarket.
I suggested this on another thread, but have you ever thought of going Gluten Free? Or doing an elimination diet to see if any food is causing some of the problems? You'd be surprised what a difference being Gluten Free does for me. My meds work better and I take less of them. If I eat something with wheat in it by mistake, I notice the difference right away. I started getting sick in my teens and was misdiagnosed until I was 60!
My Dr is in total agreement on me being Gluten Free. I take a probiotic every day, and sometimes double up if I feel things are not right in my gut. If I get lazy and don't take them for a couple of days, my gut starts acting up. You've got to remember that nothing is working right in our systems so the bacteria count is always off.
BTW, I am of French Canadian descent. I have family members in Canada with the same thing - Crohns. Heck, as big as my family is, you're probably a relative :-}
Take care and good luck!
Zanne
ps: One of my cousins, with Crohn's also, has been switched from Remicade to Humira and is doing very well. The Remicade worked for her for some years, but then wasn't doing it's job, so she had to have her treatments changed.
