I have never been diagnosed with a stricture and my doctor still thinks I don't have any. I think I get them though. Last week I had a sharp pain and have had them several times before. Last time I was told, after all kinds of tests for gall stones, I was told it was probably just gas. For 3 frigging days? This time the pain lasted 2 days but but with residual pain for 5 more. I went to the ER on Sunday after the on-call doctor told me to go. After a cat-scan the only thing found was an ovarian cyst.

Went to OB-GYN today and she said (from the test results from sunday) that nothing indicates that the cyst was causing that awful pain.

I just want to know what a stricture feels like. I just don't seem to have the pain as bad when I go to the doctor. By the time I go I'm okay. By the way, I didn't have a bm from Wednesday until I pooped out the contrast on Sunday.

I start Remicade next week so I'm not too worried about it, just curious. I'm pretty sure that the remicade will stop that pain if it is a stricture.

I had surgery in Nov. 2009 to remove the main stricture that was giving me trouble.  I still have one left, from a previous surgery done long ago.  It is where my large and small bowel join.  My g.i. tells me not to worry about it, because it is dealing with mostly liquids in that area.

The one I had in my colon was rough.  The main problem with that stricture was HORRIBLE nausea.  It was a buildup of scar tissue.  I also had pencil like stools.  A stricture can be quite painful, depending where it is located, and what you have been eating.

I have two. The one that gives me the most issue is in the terminal ileum. What I get is not a constant pain, but waves of intense pain that last a minute or so, then subside for a few minutes. My understanding is that this is from the natural motion of the gut wall that is trying to force the contents past the stricture.

I'm not to sure what a stricture feels like, I'm pretty sure I've had one but thats another story, your pain sounds more like a bad ulcer. When I get one there will be blood in my stool for a day or two accompanied by pain, and sometimes if its really bad the pain slowly subsides over a week or so :(

I know that after a colonoscopy with biopsies, I am in horrible pain for at least a week, I know they dont take a lot, but I sure can feel it!

I had a stricture in the colon which was made up of scar tissue and reguired surgery and did not have any pain associated with it. I did have narrow stools. So you do not always know. Sounds like it could be a blockages but not familiar with them.

Remicade may stop the pain but that does not necessarily mean you have a stricture. Hope it works for you.

Are you asking what it would feel like if you got a blockage from a stricture? If so, its a pain that comes in waves much like labor pains. You cannot move air or stool out of either direction. You eventually will develop nausea and then the vomiting. I have had two, and thats what I feel when I have a blockage.

Before I had my surgeries my strictures always kept me nauseous. It was like the food would get stuck and then everything kinda backs up on you and you feel really pukey. Hope that helps some.

Thanks all, that is exactly what I was feeling but with no vomiting and very little nausea. But the pain was high up under my lower left rib.

I had strictures in my small intestine that I had to have removed, as they were realllly bad. I would get really bad nausea and pain, and the worst part is that I wouldn't want to eat anything, as I wouldnt be able to pass anything for about 8 days -- or I would just end up vomiting.

Mine probably started about 6 years ago, and it wasnt until I realized that a lot of the pain was in the exact same area that I had it checked out.

a good way to see how your stomach passes bile thru it, is to be in the hospital with an NG tube down your throat to your stomach, it pumps bile out of your gut. If you go in the hosp. for obstuction, they will pump your stomach until gas passes or bm. anyway if you watch this thing work, about every 45 sec.bile pumps out, that is also how  gut works, like a pulse, bile gets moved thru our gut, so when you have mild obstuction and every 45 sec. or 1 min. you get gripping pains that is why. bile can't go thru. I've had 4 surgeries with 2 emergency surgeries for blockages.

Hi, I had four small strictures in my small bowel last year very painful when food passed through them would make me sick had surgery in the end. Bev x
