Went back to see my consultant on Thursday and he's now agreed to change my rubber band stitch to a smaller fishing wire type so that it is less noticable for me and saya there should be less discharge. I have had my existing one in for 8 months now since having a perianal abscess draining. Has anyone had any experience with these please?

I go in for my operation on 25th June.

Hopefully that will make things more comfortable for you...I have only had the 'rubber band' type so I cannot say for sure that the drainage will be less. In the 8 years I had my setons the only thing that slowed the drainage was medication. Are you on anything for it?

Not on any meds but the surgeon left it in because he says if he took it out the large abscess would reform.
