Remicade and Pred not working anymore. My GI told me that i need surgery.... :( Going to the doc on mon to talk about the surgey. Any one had surgery?, im scare but i think is time nothing is working anymore..

I was in the same situation and ended up having surgery.. Getting rid of the really inflamed area made a huge difference for me, as I could not live my life prior to surgery.

I would meet with a surgeon and discuss the risks and benefits of surgery, as well as any fears you may have. Although, ultimately, if you need surgery, you should go for it. It sucks to think about, but it may radically change your life for the better.

I had the j-pouch surgery but I did not know I had Crohns and not UC until this past week

I have had 2 open resections myself. Most feel that why did they wait so long for the surgery, as they tend to feel so much better afterwards. Hope your surgery leads to a long long remission. Hugs

Hi, I too have had resections in the past managed to get a 15 yr remmision with the 1st one! Had four small ones done last Jan Its amazing how great you feel once you get over the op and are able to eat with no pain. Wishing you all the very best with the surgery. Bev x wink

Deciding to have surgery is one of the best decisions I've made. If your quality of life is to the point of nothing but misery, it's probably a good idea to go under the knife.

Surgery is scarey. BUT - God blessed me w/a 20 year remission after my resection. May he bless you w/a long remission as well.

Get up and walk as soon and as much as posssible. Grab a pillow and hold it to your belly when you cough or laugh or roll over or sit up after surgery. That pillow makes it easier and more comfortable to do so during the first few days after surgery. And getting up and walking, walking as much as possible, speeds your recovery and wakes your intestines up and gets them working better and sooner which aids recovery.

DID ANYONE HAS PROBLEM HEALING AFTER SURGERY? IM AFRAID SINCE IM TAKING PREDISONE DR SAID YOU HAVE MORE RISK OF INFECTIONS AND SLOWER HEALING PROCESS!!!

I was on prednisone for at least 8 weeks prior to surgery, and continued with it through the surgery, and after for about 6 more weeks. They told me it would take a bit longer to heal, but that it shouldn't really effect me that much. The only thing that I had because of it was back pain, which I have always had when on prednisone.

Don't worry about the prednisone, my experience was much like Bibi's. You'll do fine and you'll be so much happier approx. 6 weeks after the surgery.

I have had 3 resections. I was always on long term prednisone with each of them. As far as the healing, instead of having the staples removed at 10 days (or something like that), I had them out at 14. The healing is a little delayed. It isn't a reason to put off surgery if it means getting quality of life back. I had the 3 resections pretty close together because I had spent 10 years undiagnosed and untreated, thus I had a lot of damaged to undo. After that was taken care of, I have lived a pretty calm life, CD wise. It was a matter of finding the right combination of medication and the right diet. I have been given quality of life I didn't have before my resections. Yes the healing is not fun, but once you recover, you will probably be much happier, for a good long time.

Ive had 4 surgeries, 2 resections, both times brought remission, around 15 years ea time, but i didn't take any meds, i wish i had now, because I'm at the point that they really can't operate any more so med's are my only option, but my cd is in my throat and cankersores with my throat always feels like it is swollen, hard to swallow certain foods, my tongue also gets leasions on it. surgery certainly can put into remission, but your body will be permantenly changed when they remove any disease, they 9ft of small bowel, that alone can be disableing, so that being said, it certainly is better than being in horrible pain, in my case obstuction's caused both resection surgeries
