Anyone else suffering? I'm not dealing with the heat anymore. I don't understand it, I used to love the
summer. I'm sweating profusely, (in or out of the AC0, and my limbs are aching...
I posted this on the lupus board, because I'm not quite sure what disease is causing what!!

That was my first "symptom" of something being wrong with me back in high school. I was a tennis player and suddenly in the summer before my senior year of high school, I started getting sick (flu like fatigue and nausea) any time I'd play in the sun or when it was hot out. Now, over 20 years later, I'm still very sensitive to heat, and I get overheated and sickly feeling very easily. I prefer weather in the 60s, and anything over the 70s makes me feel run down.

I used to have heat intolerance. It was when my disease was active. Once I was on Humira, and then SCD, it went away. Now I'm the opposite and am often cold. I think my thyroid is out of whack.

My dad has crohn's too, and he's very heat intolerant.

That's interesting!. I thought this might be down to lupus. Whatever it is I'm not liking it!!

Are you on steroids? I've been told that they can affect the body's ability to handle heat, and make us suffer much, much more than usual during summer.

Just came on this site to talk about how I can not tolerate the Heat! Such a bummer. I hate summer now. When I'm in the sun to long I feel fluish, almost heat stoke feeling. This was one of my first symptoms of an auto-immune disease too. I remember the exact summer. The summer of 1998. Used to go camping and hang out at the Lake. Now I get a terrible rash if I'm in the sun toooo long! 

I don't do to well in the extreme cold either. It's so sad:........(

Summer misery does love company. I can't tolerate it either. I thought it was menopause but I think there is more to it now. I avoid the sun now in the summer like the plague. I had to start wearing a hat a few years ago because the sun would hurt my head and make me feel bad. Then the unstable weather that brings the storms makes my joints hurt....

Wow, I thought this thread would go nowhere. I'm glad I'm not the only one, but sad others are suffering too.
Today the temp went 100 and I felt terrible!!

Ivy, I'm not taking steroids right now, but I know what you mean...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, good old summer. 99 degrees and 100% humidity. When you open the door in the morning your glasses fog up and the heat hits you like the door being slammed in your face. Take off the glasses and you still cant see cause your eyes are fogged too. Walk down to the bayou and your soaking wet . Dont even think about working in this . Time to go back in and wring out your drawers and take another shower. Man I love winter...

Some medications can play heck with you. I've been on, and still am on, some that specifically make me very susceptible to sunburns. I have to be very careful outside or I burn like heck.

I do feel the heat more than most, but that seems to run in my family. I guess that's what happens when a bunch of Canadians move to California. At least I'm on the coast, and we usually get fog in the summer. Going inland sucks.

I've been having a horrible time with this. I'm in the panhandle region of Florida where it's easily been 95+ everyday with 95%+ humidity. I can't STAND it some days. It makes me nauseous and lightheaded. :(

For me it's the disease and not the meds - it started before I had any other symptoms of Crohn's and long before I started any meds.

I have terrible tolerance of heat and cold. I am jealous that you can sweat though. My docs are checking my thyroid. have you checked into that?

Well I guess I have to put my symptoms down to this DD, not lupus as I first thought. Mmmm could be a mix of the two....

I've always hated hot weather. When I win the lottery, I plan on buying a dirigible, building a small apartment into it, and flying it north every summer. Yep.

I started noticing it last summer. I can't remember if it was before or after I was put on prednisone. I wondered if it was because I'm overweight or peri-menopausal. Even in an air conditioned building that others find comfortable, I will sweat. I dread summer now. I had my doc run tests to check for lupus because of the face rash and other symptoms but that came back ok. I'm lucky it cools down at night where I live so I can sleep. I don't have ac at home. The sweating at work drives me crazy.

I just realized that I need to change my name. I picked heatmiser because I liked heat and the little guy on the xmas show.

Back in my hot days, I used to keep the freezer full of reusable ice packs. They work great to cool one down, especially when you can't sleep at night. I used to balance one on top of my head too ;-).

Habs, my thyroid is checked every time, as my sister has hashimotto's disease, the other one has Graves. So I know
that's one thing I don't have. I really believe this CD & lupus mix, I don't get the regular butterfly rash on my face, but
I get a itchy/painful rash on the back of my hands (lupus related). Oh well I guess it really doesn't matter what causes
it, all I know it's a pain in the rear...

As a couple of others have said, I'm intolerant to both heat and cold. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if my thyroid was out of whack :-/

Also, if you're on an immunesuppressant be careful. I had a very bad experience last August, where the back of my right hand became seriously scabby and itchy, and the skin looked like that of an 80-year-old. (My arm was also affected, but not as badly.) I didn't even put it down to the 6MP for a while; it was HW who helped me out when I stumbled across a thread about sun intolerance. I found out that some medications can cause increased sun reactions, and 6MP/Imuran are prominent among them. Anyway, I remembered that I'd been sitting in the car with my right arm resting on the open window with the sun blazing down on it, and it fell into place. Now this year I have my 50+ SPF suncream!

PS: 99F + 100% humidity sounds like my idea of pure hell :-/

I hate it too, I was just going for a bike ride yesterday, didn't even make it 2 miles before I started puking...I bet people driving by me were cracking up.... I mean this is ridiculous! I obviously can't do anything else outdoors, just stick to my stupid Wii Fit and go back to the gym I guess.. ( I'm trying to lose this Darn Prednisone weight, gahh!)

oh, and I'm not even on Prednisone right now....I had the WORST hot flashes when I was though, I really feel for the people that are on it this time of year!

I have Crohn's Disease and for the longest time I cannot tolerate extremes in temps: cold or heat. Either one makes me extremely uncomfortable. I just need to live where it is 75 and sunny year round : )
