ok so i have rheumatoid arthritis. i was diagnosed my 7th grade year. i have gotten 2 tattoos while on humira, prednisone, methotrexate, and folic acid. i havent had any complications with healing. but for my 18th bday i would like a monroe piercing but i am worried of the risks. i was wanting to see if anybody out there can help me with that. has anybody gotten a piercing while on any of these medications? n did u have complications? someone help me plz!

Why do you feel the need to abuse and deface your body? That is something I've never been able to understand. But then I've never been able to understand "peer pressure" either. Who wants to be a carbon copy of everybody else and have the same things that everybody else has?? It sounds so BORING. I wanna be ME. Please don't be offended or feel that I'm insulting you as that is NOT my intent. I truly don't understand WHY.

Sweetie there are risks with any kind of piercing, but since you do not have crohns so I am not really worried about you having ulcers from it. But I have to admit I would rather get my motorcycle license (skills class costs about $300 at your local Harley dealer) for my 18th birthday then a piercing. Which is actually much more dangerous, so I probably should not have said it, but it is what I would have done for my 18th birthday if I had thought of it!

I would have to agree with Navy. I got my motorcycle license while in college and enjoy riding on days that my joints will cooperate much more than my tatoos. I guess I need to google monroe piercing. I am so out of the loop. Just weigh the risk/reward on any major decision. I have found that while on remicade and now humira it takes me 2-3x longer to recover. I wouldn't put myself at risk unless necessary. But that is just my opinon. Off to find out what a monroe piercing is.....

I think you are more susceptible to infects when you are on the medications that you are taking so be mindful of that. Otherwise I say go for it. I'd rather you get a peircing that you can take out later in life than a tattoo which you are stuck with for life :)

Always risks with piercing and tattooing even for the healthy bunch. You really should be fine with piercing and/or tattooing on the meds you are taking as long as your piercer or artist knows and follows to the letter sterilizing techniques and you follow their instructions to the letter of after care.

I was told that prednisone can affect healing. I don't know about the other meds.

heatmiser is correct, prednisone can affect healing - and you might want to read the info you get with your Humira because it can leave you open to opportunistic infections. I can't get over how many folk seem to know absolutely nothing about the meds they're on.

I think you're crazy to risk it but if you want to know for sure, ask your doctor.

I don't know what a Monroe peircing is. Is it something that stretches to or will it heal over if need be? I think you should talk with your doctor about it.

I would not risk it on Prednisone.  I had a monroe when I was in highschool, I loved it.  I had to take it out when I got my current job 3 years ago.

C2 tattoos and piercings have been around for thousands of years.  It's a form of self expression.

if the piercing has a name it's got to be somewhere funky- haha...i'd steer clear of anything i did on purpose that might increase the risk of a bad infection...
