I normally use tramadol when my pain is really bad, which luckily is not often. Now however i am on an antidepressant called Mirtazapine. I googled it and read about
an interaction with tramadol. Apparently it can cause convulsions and high temperatures ect. Now this is not my GP's fault. I forgot to tell her about
my tramadol when i registered the other day. The tramadol isnt on pescript
ion as such. I just get a months supply of it as and when i need it.
So i need to change painkillers, any recommendations? Tramadol is fab, and i have the 50mg tablets. One of which knocks me out.

Wow, that sucks. Tramadol is the only thing that I can take that doesn't make me loopy or nauseaus.

What about
trying hydrocodone (Vicodin) or oxycodone (percocet)? I take Norco, which is a stronger Vicodin and it works great. I tried the Fentanyl patch but it just didn't ever really work for me.

I take Norco, but this is after years of chronic pain, so my tolerance is a bit higher than some. You might need to see a pain clinic doctor, they really are the specialist in this area. A lot of us see them and they can really help find the right med to treat us to help us function without knocking us out.

When I was having pain, my GI gave me some Vicodin, and said for most people it is enough. Start with something less powerful and work your way up.

I start with Darvocet and it usually works quite well for me. If that doesn't manage it, I also have Lortab and Diluadid for major emergencies (usually only used to get me to the ER......).
I do like Darvocet though - I start with half a pill, then take the other half an hour later if needed.

It sounds like you are talking about
serotonin syndrome. SS is considered rare. Mirtazapine is less likely to interact with the tramadol and cause SS than most other antidepressants. Many people take tramadol and antidepressants together without a problem, especially when the doses are low. 50 mg of tramadol taken occasionally may be ok.
You should check with your doc. Why give up a med that helps if you don't have to?

i take percocets- my gi would not prescribe any pain meds so i am seeing a pain doc-
also getting celiac plexus blocks- shots that block the pain nerves from the gut.
something's working bc i was puking the pain was so bad- lately i've only puked twice and that was bc i forgot to take my percocets.
