Hi Everyone,

I've had left sided abdominal pain for about 3 weeks now, and it usually occurs after I eat. I have been going to the dr weekly since it started and they keep playing it off. Finally today I went and they suggested that I have an upper endoscopy as it may be either Crohn's in my upper GI (I had previously only had it in my colon, which has now been removed), or stomach cancer.

My question is simple: will they put me out for the scope? As long as I'm asleep I'm cool with it. Anything I should know about? I go to see my GI in 2 days.

My GI puts me under twilight sedation with the upper endoscopy. Definitely need it. I would not be able to tolerate it without the sedation. Good luck with your test and hope you feel better soon

They sedated me just like with colonoscopies. Best part is there's no prep :) Good luck with everything, get feeling better!

I had one last week. They put me right to sleep and I never knew anything had happened. Nothing to worry about; you'll be just fine! :)

I just had one last week. My GI uses Propofol for sedation, which works great. They also spray your throat with something to numb it. Very easy procedure, you'll do fine!

Yup, yup, they do sedate you. No prep needed.  yeah (Yay!).   smilewinkgrin  

It could also be pancreatitis, maybe, acute or chronic. I wish you good luck that it is something easily treated!!!

Oooooh, I'm having my first endoscopy in a few weeks too!  (Though my mom thinks I might have had one when I first got diagnosed over 8 years ago, but I don't remember!)

I've had tons of colonoscopies so I was super excited to hear there isn't the prep work for this!  And they put you under!  Seems like it should be a piece of cake!

What were your symptoms like with adhesions? How did they fix it?

Pain after I eat, burping, feeling of fullness,nausea at times, not going to the bathroom. I'm seeing a surgeon on Friday to have them freed up. Small bowel showed kinks and thickening. Oh what fun! Something to think about if all tests come back negative.

Hi, I am coming from the UC board--- actually I have a jpouch now. I am going through the same thing.. I have been having pain in the center and to the left -- bad pain. I also have oily stools.. The doctor thinks it might be pancreatitis. He is doing stool samples and lots of blood work AND an upper endoscopy. I have had these before. Truly, no big deal. You won't feel anything during and after you feel fine, just sleepy.
