Hi

 

I found this forum by googling occupational health & crohns and am so glad I did!

I am being referred to OH as I had 9 (Crohns related) days off last year and it came up in my appraisal. I made the mistake of mentioning that I get flare ups around my period and they have latched on to this and are trying to make out it's "just" period pains.

I am not signing the forms for the referral until this misleading statement has been corrected - "one or two days a month at her monthly cycle" - for starters it was not always at that time anyway.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I went to an O.H this morning after I informed my employer I wanted to return to work but, as a duty of care my employer has to inform O.H basically to cover themselves as well as making sure I am fit to go back. As it was the O.T thinks at the moment I physically won't be able to manage a full week so, has drawn up a plan for me to work 3 mornings a week. then building the hours up gradually each week.

I think you will benefit from seeing an O.H they are very helpful and will come up with a plan for you which your employer must abide with. Bev x

OH cancelled after meeting with HR and now going to see my consultant instead to get a letter from them.

Much better in my opinion as he knows me :-)

I saw OH through work. I was obliged to do so depsite providing info from my consultant. I have seen them 3 times now and every time they have been really helpful.
The advised my employer that they thought I was covered by the Disability Discriminations Act. My employer agreed and now I am allowed time off for treatment and tests that do not count for sick leave. They are classed as disability adjustment leave. When I was initially diagnosed I was off for 3 months. I told the OH that my consultant had recommended that I come back on a part times basis. It took me 13 weeks to get back to full time and work was ok with this because OH was ok with it.

That's awesome that you don't have to use your sick time due to the ADA.  I may have to look into that!  =)

When you go part time do you still get full pay?

Yes I still got full pay for my 13 weeks part time. The hours I went in were paid and the hours at home counted as sick hours. I am lucky that I get paid for the first six months of sick. Only my infliximab treatment days off and hospital visits are covered by the DDA
